I have just finished reading the Marie Mongan book. I dont think i will have time to get my head round the principles properly before DD but hoping to do some of the visualisation etc. Has anyone actually practised it for birth? Which bits helped you most? Did it really help with the pain? Just curious really....

Yes I did it. Found it helped loads, esp for second baby (my birth story is the latest Real Story on here if you want to read it). I found the slow breathing really helpful, and the calm place visualisation/counting down relaxation. Couldn't bear listening to Rainbow Relaxation actually during labour though, I found music more helpful.

I did and it was fab. I used some of the scripts to help relax during my labour and I do believe that they helped bring it back on after things tailed off a bit. I used the Steven Halpern music for general relaxation and found it really soothing.

Yes for both and i really rate it. I only used the breathing techniques, the rainbow relaxation and then also downloaded the Steve Halpern music (the whale music innthe background on the rainbow relaxationm- there is a whole cd of different relaxing tunes!). With DD1 the breathing techniques were the main thing that helped and when things got intense I put on the rainbow relaxation to get me back in the zone. With the twins it all happened so quickly that i only had time for a couple of rainbow relaxations and to be honest having my headphones on just made me zone out from everything going on and the amount of people in the room so i could distance myself from it all.

I did a course when I had A and just picked up the book again for #3. I found it great (although Marie Mongan's voice on the CD is pretty irritating TBH) but I found visualising what my body was Ing (blue ribbons) and having a focus colour really helped. My MW was very shocked when I was 6cm because I was so calm and ended up having A without even G&A. There are hypnobirthing videos on YouTube which are quite interesting!

So forgive me for being dim but what do you actually do? I am having to cut corners a bit with only 2 weeks to go. So in first stage you do the slow breathing and what do you visualise? Then you go onto birth breathing for second stage - again what do you visualise?
Thanks everyone!! X

For me, I focused on breathing with the contractions as I think first time I had a tendency to tense up and I actually tried to visualise what the muscles were doing. During the 2nd stage, again I was imagining her coming down but tbh it was so quick by that time there wasn't much time to think about much! Just as I was transitioning between stages for me was the hardest part where I lost focus as things got very intense so I wish i'd had the iPod there to put some relaxation music on but that was then I tried to visualise a colour.
