Baby number 3 is due in 12 weeks so still have plenty of time but we are really struggling. We know it's a boy, we already have a Joshua. I stupidly told family the 3 names we had shortlisted and no one likes them - should have known better than tell them, and I shouldn't let it affect my decision but it will.

We went through the top 200 or so baby names the other day and added nothing to the list - we don't like different/unusual names so didn't see the point of looking outside the 200

Anyone else finding names really hard?

I found boys names really easy. Could have another 3 or 4 boys, and they would all have names I love (Brodey, Tobey, Corey and Riley)

    Girls names are harder.

Nobody liked my name choice for J, I never let it influence me, as it was a name I loved. Now, they all love it, as it is HIS name...

Lol CP at using a girl's name - let's all keep our fingers crossed you have a girl! I find girl's names so easy, could think of at least 10 girl's names I'd use

I don't get on with Nymbler at all - always gives me random, stupid names

Our 3 options are Callum/Calum, Samuel/Sam and Lewis.

Lewis is 2nd most popular name in Scotland just now, can't decide if that puts me off. Abigail says we can't use Callum as there are 4 in her nursery and J is Fireman Sam obsessed so whenever I say Sam he shouts either 'Fire fire' or 'Burny Burny' lol

I have a Samuel so am biased! I like names that are versatile so for example S is Sammy for now and will probably be Sam once he's older. If a name is popular it massively puts me off as I don't want my kids to be one of 4 others with the same name in their classes, for that reason I don't really want a name in the top 50.

I've not really mentioned any of the 6 we like to my family as to be frank I don't care if they like them, we'll use what we want! Lol. If you like those 3 go with them, your family will soon get used to it

We found boys names really hard. N's name was our only choice and I used my second favourite of Samuel as his middle name. That's it! Any future boys will be nameless.

    Girls names are easy.

I'm not normally put off names if they're popular - I think Abigail was top 40 the year she was born, most of her friends had more popular names yet in her swimming class, 3 out of 4 girls were called Abigail! I think being number 2 is particularly high though. I can't really let my family put me off our choices as they are the only ones we have - I can't see us coming up with anything else to add to the list.

Don't even get me started on middle names!

At only 12 weeks we have ages to decide but we struggle with girls names as we did when thinking of one for Isla. Boy is no problem we had Toby picked for Isla if she was a boy and we'll still use it this time if we have a boy. I don't know why girls names are so difficult.

We have struggled to agree on anything... Loads I love that h doesn't but then he doesn't suggest alternatives... We have now agreed on a boys name and have a choice of three girls names... We haven't told anyone family or friends...

We have 6 boys names we vaguely agree on. Girls names we have no common ground what so ever. Thankfully this is a boy!

I'm currently going through the top 100 list AGAIN in the hope something else suddenly appeals to me. I guess we'll just have to wait until he's born and hope the right name just jumps out at us

I could have written your OP. We are finding boys names so hard. We have a shortlist but I can't say that I really LOVE any of them and the names that I do really like have been taken by family members already! H and I were looking at more names for boys yesterday and nothing seems to pop out. Girls names have been a lot easier for us and we seem to be fixed on our shortlist so lets hope that for ease, this one is pink!

We have a short list, although it fluctuates but no decisions will be made until after Noodles is born.  Given that Zoe took almost 2 weeks to agree on a name, and it wasn't one that was even on our short list, we don't have high hopes this time around.

A chose his name at 2 weeks old, it was 3am, I was sat up in bed, he was resting against my knees and was looking at him, and his name just popped into my head.  Wasn't one of the names on any short list, hadn't even considered it.  When I saw H, I told him the name H liked it, it just suited him and worked.  A nice story to tell him when he's older, he chose his name Andrew James.

I'm not in a great position to help as I love unusual names, though we had wobbles on O's name on the day before he was born (we were also in the opposite position in that we found boys' names much easier).

The only thing I'd say is to definitely look outside the top 200, as there are plenty of non unusual but underused names on there Smile

I love Samuel! Loving that J shouts burny Weep, h loves Callum and always has done. I like Louis rather than Lewis iyswim. Samuel goes very well with Joshua and Abigail x

Ps how can your family not like those names?  I'd just go with what you like rather than them. Mil liked Andre for Isaac Weep and fil liked kaiser Weep god help us!

we have a Lewis, so I'm biased but I think your list is fab! He was almost Alex, or Joel (bit too like Joshua perhaps) or Max, and his middle name is Tristan, so maybe they'll give you some inspiration. We weren't sure until he was born though then it just seemed right

I think Samuel really fits with A and J.

We're struggling, I'm yet to get over H vetoing both my favourite girl and boy name. We have a couple of front runners, but we've only just started to find some common ground. At least, with a bit of luck, we'll be able to concentrate on just one gender after tomorrow.

It's soo hard and I'm only on 2nd time around, I think not being able to find a name will be a genuine reason for us to stop after 2!

Pretty much exactly WSS apart from the wobbles!

Definitely look outside the top 200, just because they aren't majorly popular doesn't mean the names are all wacky and unusual. Smile
