Sand it over so that any new paint has a key and then paint it. I want tongue and groove in our bathroom eventually, I'm going to use eggshell paint as its good for keeping clean and ideal for wood.

Thanks I do have an electric sander in the house somewhere so shouldn't be too difficult to sand down

you dont need to sand it bare, just a quick going over. If you're painting it paler, paint with a primer and then paint with your chosen paint. Dont use normal emulsion though, the wood will soak it up and you'll be forever painting until you get the colour you want.... needs to be a wood paint. I also like to use satin gloss - its got more of a matt sheen to it and doesnt stink like gloss....

Thank you, I'd never have thought of that and would've just used normal paint!

Chalk paint! It's my answer to everything. No sanding or priming just wack it on then wax it lightly. There's a recipe to make your own if you google it!

haven't heard of that, will give it a google, I like the sound of making my own

is it suitable for places with a lot of moisture, like bathrooms though??

I've got a dresser that I chalk painted in the kitchen and its ok. Might need to make sure it's well waxed or perhaps wax it more regularly but mines holding up well! It's the lazy girl option!
