I came off my anti-depressants once I knew I was pregnant (I was taking venlafaxine). I was really worried about harming the baby. I am now 7 months pregnant and I never thought I would come this far without any anti-depressants. I need to say that I have had days of anxiety, not sleeping at all on some nights, having little patience for my partner at some times, general nervousness. I am not saying I have this every day, but these symptoms have arisen. My midwife referred me to a psychiatrist twice, just for me to talk things over. The appointment never arrived in my mail box...
I am at a stage where I have 2 more months to go, so I hope I can cope until then. I tend to think that once the baby is out of my body, I can take the pills again. But of course, if I am breastfeeding as I want to be, this means another 6 months. But I feel relief when I think that I can always give the baby formula instead. I won't have to endure the suffering from depression.
My GP said to me that there are anti-depressants pregnant women can take, but never really told me which ones. I am very curious to know if there is anyone out there that has had a baby having taken anti-depressants. And did it affect the baby?
