Just wondering, E was born mid-August 2012, so will he be starting school in Sept 2016 when he's just turned 4 or the year after just turned 5?

The way things are at the moment, it will be Sept 2016 so he'll be one of the youngest.

Deedee is right, children normally start in Reception the September after their 4th birthday (unless the school has 2 different entry points, some schools still offer a January start for younger children). They actually don't need to start school until their 5th birthday but they would then start in Year One which means that they would miss out on Reception year.

CustardSeptember after 4th birthday official intake. Legally you can allow them to start the term after they turn 5 so if you wanted legally he can start straight into y1. As a reception teacher please send him to reception when he's just 4! So much better for the children!
Thank you Custard, that's what I expected for him. He's been quite advanced so far at 15 months so no doubt he'll be more than ready for Reception (we definitely will!) May I ask your professional opinion? Do you see much difference in the kids depending on their birthdays? Am well aware that there's quite a gap developmentally between 'just 4's' and 'just 5s' - does it make a big difference in reception?

Thanks Custard that's exactly what I've been telling H! He's constantly worrying about him being one of the youngest but I've said all along it's how much we put in and considering he's been read to since Day 1 (actually scratch that - in utero!) and we put so much into educational games he'll probably be further on than some kids when he starts!
