So, probably a stupid question but 1st pregnancy!
I am looking at different carriers/ slings and was wondering how soon you used yours. I know some are okay from birth but baby will be due end of October time and I'm just wondering if it will be too cold for baby in a carrier rather than wrapped up in a pram?
I keep thinking baby will be well clothed, next to my body etc but still can't help but think baby will be too open to the elements!? What did you do?

They will definitely be warm enough in a sling, they've got your body heat as well as all their clothes to keep them warm, and as a baby you can also tuck their legs and feet inside, as well as they're head. C was an April baby, but I still slung him the following winter and kept him warn.
I had a closer carrier when C was a baby (think they're called caboo now), easy to put on and get them in.

There's no such thing as a stupid question!
Baby will actually be far warmer snuggled next to you in the sling than they would be in the pram. They'll probably only need a coat, hat and extra socks, whereas in the pram they might be in a snowsuit plus cosy toes, plus blanket.
For newborns, stretchy slings like Caboo by Close or Moby are great. Connectas are really good if you want something more structured with buckles.

We had a Moby to take A home from the hospital in and that was great. He was born 11th January, it was fecking freezing and snowing!! I wouldn't have gone walking with him unnecessarily but I do feel he was better/warmer in the sling cosied up to his Daddy than he would have been in the pram.
He 'outgrew' his Moby by the time he was a few months old and I found it a bit of a pain to tie, but it was fab when he was small. Even for a January baby I worried more about him being too hot than too cold.

I used my Connecta from about 4 days old with #2 and we used it in heavy snow when he was about 6 months old - he wore a snowsuit and hat and by the end of the walk he was totally covered in snow and you couldn't tell there was a baby there! But he slept through the whole walk and was happy as larry afterwards so was obviously warm enough.

Thanks for the replies! It had been the Connecta I was initially looking at so will have a look at the others suggested too.
Would you wear your coat over baby (obviously providing it fits..) or do it up as usual and put baby carrier over it.
I feel like I'm over thinking this and still have a 27 weeks to go! ;)

Nice to see you on MD!
I use a close caboo and we both get really warm in it. When iv taken him out go walk the dog, in the snow and freezing cold, he's had a snowsuit on and hat and was plenty warm. Iv also done my coda around him when it was super cold. Used from about 4 weeks old but only because I didn't buy till then.

Nice to be here Missus S :) I have mooched for a while and thought it was about time I got stuck in! I have hundreds of stupid questions to ask so feel like I will be quite active over here!
The dog is pretty much the whole reason I first looked in to slings/ carriers. H was adamant that when we had a baby the dog would get pushed to one side but he will always be my fur baby so determined to still give him lots of attention and walks so was looking at ways for me and baby to be more mobile without being restricted to a pram!
Will definitely give the close caboo a look as seems to be quite a few recommendations for this one.

I've had my coat open and just pulled it round a bit in the past. Having a baby strapped to your middle keeps you pretty snug!

We've managed ok with C-dog. I bought a pram specifically for muddy country fields mind, but that or the sling means we can still go on walks every day. You'll be fine :) I have ordered a connecta but can't comment as wont be here for a month yet

Another vote for the close/caboo carrier. I started using it when T was 3 weeks old but in hindsight I wish I'd used it from day one. I also bought a couple of startsuits for T to wear to keep him cosy but not too hot! x

I've used the connecta as soon as he met the minimum weight requirement, we have two dogs and I can now manage to walk them both alone with b in the sling, he gets hot in it very quickly, so I don't normally put a snow suit on him just a jacket and extra socks with a hat

We used the Connecta when A was 4 weeks old for a walk in the snow. I just put him socks on under his babygro and an all in one fleecy suit over the top, plus a hat. I then wore my H's coat fastened over the top of the connecta.

We started using a Kari-Me from when Zoe was 4 weeks old, and there was snow on the ground ! They will probably be even more snuggly in a sling as they are getting your body warmth. As for the coat, yes I just wore my normal coat and fastened around the two of us as best as I coudl.
