Hi Ladies, hope you don't mind me posting this here but I figured you'd be the best people to ask as you are parents yourselves.
My husband and I are considering a move from the South (where we currently live) back to the North East (where he is originally from), it would mean both of us giving up our current jobs and he's suggested I look into doing childcare. I trained in childcare and education at college (have a level 3 qualification) but ended up working outside of the childcare sector and now I would love to use this opportunity to get back into doing what I love.
Basically what I'm asking is how much do your childminders charge per hour/day and do you know how much it costs to register as a childminder?
Sorry for the waffle but I'm getting myself all excited at the thought this might actually happen and thank you in advance for any replies I get :)

I'm a bit of a lurker here. But last year, I did an information session on childminding with the local council. It had all changed a few years ago and now It's quite involved, you have to do paedatric (sp) first aid course, a 6hr starting your own business and another course (that I can't remember the name of) before you apply for an Ofsted inspection. You have to follow the Early Years foundation stage and do development assessments.
But having the Level 3 childcare qualification will be even better. We were told on this session, it could take quite a while for things to happen. But this is West Sussex Council way of doing things for childcare, it could be really different in the North East.
i'm trying to remember what was said, it was so involved that I wrote 6 pages of notes.

Thanks for the help Vanessa. It's actually West Sussex I'm moving from! I do already have an up to date first aid course which include paediatric first aid but that'll prob need renewing before the move so that's a good one to think about! The other two courses I've no idea about but I shall look into them :)
I've been googling since posting the thread and I'm now thinking that finding a nanny job might be more simple as there will be no extra requirements other than getting a new CRB check but thought I'd look into the childminding route too as there is several primary schools/nurseries in the area and I know afternoon/evening care is something mums are looking for in the area as I've been searching through childcare websites. Whereas I've not found any full-time nanny positions within the immediate area. However this could all change by the time a move happens (if it happens!)

Oooh whereabouts in the North East? All being well I'll be looking for childcare in about 18 months!
I have had a quick google and childminders and nurseries around us seem to be about £4 per hour or £40 per day including snacks but we're Northumberland.
I'm not sure about nannies but if we could afford it I'd love one that would look after the baby and our dog who curretly goes to doggie daycare at a cost of £200 per month!

PS, search from childminder / childminding posts - I started a similar one a while ago and had some really useful replies.
I've done quite a lot of research into the legalities etc as well so can PM you the info later - I should really be getting ready for work right now
