Hey MDers, as some of you may know H and I have stopped TTC for the moment, with plans to start again near Christmas. I start a PGDE in August, and have handed in my notice at work, so this really would be the worst time to get pregnant. We have been actively preventing with condoms, and I really don't think that there have been any mishaps, but I am aware that accidents do happen.
Anyway, I am 9DPO today and had spotting this morning. I commented to H yesterday and (I think) the day before that I had period cramps but I'm not due on til Wednesday. This morning I got up and went to the loo, and when I wiped there was brown blood. I thought 'bloody typical' - I must have OV'd super early compared to normal, and I'm out for my birthday tomorrow and now I'm going to be on my period. The brown blood was there again the next time I went, but then stopped completely and I haven't had anything else. The cramps have stopped too.
Please please please reaasure me that this just happens sometimes and doesn't actually mean anything? How typical would it be that I would actually fall pregnant when not trying. Also, can I just say, we tried for ten cycles so I know how tough it can be, I'm not trying to be disrespectful to anyone who is trying...it's just that this would be the worst possible timing for us and I'm panicking a little bit.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry I have no experience of implantation bleeding but just wanted to say that I got my BFP at 9 DPO so you could test to see if you are pregnant. I would be very surprised If you are if you've been using condoms with no accidents. Testing is the only way to put your mind at rest though xx
13/06/2013 at 13:35
Daft questions alert: would it be obvious if there was an accident?
13/06/2013 at 13:40
I got a BFP at (what turned out to be) 10days POV and bleeding a few hours later. I had convinced myself it was all over before it has bearly begun......
Test woman. It's the only way to be sure :-)
13/06/2013 at 13:43
I guess it wouldn't be obvious if there was a tiny hole in one or something but as I'm a control freak I would be checking afterwards if it was the only contraception being used.

Somethings probably been prodded or dislodged or something non serious Saffy, I can't believe the irony though.
If you have any IC's about I'd do a test the next few days to rule it out.
IF it so happens that you have been miraculously upduffed would it not be possible to cancel your notice and keep your job? even though obv it would be gutting about your uni place?
13/06/2013 at 14:14
Test! As TT says, you could cancel your notice and defer your uni placement.
I sometimes get brown spotting one or two days before AF starts, but you'll never know until you test x

I can't cancel my notice and I wouldn't want to. I hate it here and it makes me sad most days, if not every day. I could defer if they would let me, but it's definitely not guaranteed and it actually states on the paperwork that deferral is not given at all. We would also need to somehow then fund full time child care, as well as our house, bills, etc purely on Hs wage. Basically, I wouldn't be able to go to Uni. Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself here. I think I will simply push it to the back of my mind and enjoy my birthday weekend, if my period doesn't show (which it will! It will!) then I will test.
Thanks ladies, just an irrational moment of panic!

Are you 100% sure you are 9dpo? Are you still temping?
Could just be one of those random things! How much sex did you have around ov?
13/06/2013 at 15:41
I would test otherwise you'll be driving yourself mad. People have got faint positives on 10dpo.
13/06/2013 at 15:45
Hey OB, thanks for replying. Was actually going to text you, but didn't want to seem insensitive as I know how heartbreaking it is to not be pregnant each month, yet here I am panicking. I haven't been temping, so 9DPO is based on averages and EWCM. Have just checked FF and I'm CD25, no idea. I don't think we had too much sex around OV, as I've been feeling a bit down and H has been away a lot, but as we're not trying I didn't keep track of the days IYKWIM? I'm sure it's nothing, juust had a wee panic moment, and was looking for someone to say that they have had random spotting mid cycle that means nothing.

Ive never had bleeding either. It may be a cut or something internally? I would trst though as if you are you wouldn't want to be drinking etc. Xx

I regularly get some spotting between periods, and after lots of testing and scans, they have decided it must just be either due to the erosion thing on cervix or I'm a bit odd. But if you are worried, take a pregnancy test, then you'll know for sure that it is just your body being odd for some reason.

IF you turn out to be pregnant (and I think it's unlikely, with TTC for so many months and then using condoms - me and H used condoms as our only contraception for the last 4 years of our relationship and only had 1 accident when the condom split, which was very obvious - and happened to be after ov so no pregnancy) then you could still go to uni as you'd probably be able to do the majority of the year and then just suspend studies for the last bit - eg if you went on maternity in feb, you'd probably only have 1 placement and a couple of assignments left by then so wouldn't have to repeat a year, you'd just do the assignments when you could, and do the final placement (likely to be a 6 week block if it's the same as in England) whenever you were ready, eg September, and could then start working straight away (even if supply).
From a maternity pay POV, again I don't know if it's different in Scotland, but here you get MA from the government if you've worked 26 out of the previous (?66) weeks before due date, so you working up to starting the course would probably cover that.
I'd test tomorrow if AF hasn't arrived, and then maybe again in another 2 days.

Thanks Mrs50s! Hugely reassuring that you had such a positive experience with condoms, and also to know that I would have options if necessary...thanks for replying
It's actually started back up again now, so I'm hoping AF appears through the evening and that this is actually just a shorter cycle than average.

Saff, as you might remember i had lots of spotting pre-af. do i remember correctly that you also had some in the last cycle you were ttc? Maybe I've got that wrong though. i think lots of things can cause a bit of spotting and it's not necessarily implantation. in fact, Im very dubious about implantation bleeding on the whole. i think a fertilitya friend analysis showed that it wasn't really prevalent. try not to worry and do a test tomorrow x
13/06/2013 at 20:00
I remember PW, you had an awful time with it. I did have spotting on our very last cycle of TTC, well remembered, but unfortunately that cycle did end in a chemical pregnancy...I had left MD by that time as I assumed we were simply unsuccessful and so never posted about it. I think that's why I panicked so much today, as the only other time I ever had spotting it technically was implantation. As it happens, the cramps are getting worse anyway so I suspect it is early AF.
13/06/2013 at 20:05
Goodness, so sorry to hear that. what an emotional rollercoaster. Sounds like af might be on the way, but id prob test tomorrow anyway just in case it's another day of confusing spotting. x

Thanks lovely, I'm very much ok with it now. I think that Uni first, family later, is definitely the right way for us.
