    Hi,

I have my booking in appointment with the midwife coming up next month and unsure whether my husband should come with me....it would mean him having to take a day off work and therefore lost earning. He will be coming to the scans, but not sure whether it's worth his while with this appointment.

What's everyone else doing? Or if you've had one already did you feel it was necessary for your husband/partner to be there?

    Thanks. xx

    Hi,

I went on my own to mine. It was just questions about medical history, being weighed and blood pressure taken and information given.
Hubby will come to scans and later mw appointments but I didn't feel he needed to be at the booking appt but that is just my experience xx

i didn't take my hubs, it was just a lot of questions that i didn't need him to answer, and some blood tests and a wee test!
he came to my 12 and 20 week scans, but the only MW appt he came to fell when he was on holiday.

Hubby hasn't been with me to either of mine and neither of us feel he's missed out. To be honest you might find the appointment a bit of an anticlimax, it's exciting for the mum-to-be but in reality it's a paperwork exercise. The midwife won't do anything to confirm your pregnancy as HPTs are so good, you might get the date for your first scan or you might have to wait for that to come in the post. So no, I don't think it's necessary for hubby to be there, especially if it's difficult for him to go.

One thing though is that the midwife will ask about family history, any medical conditions, pregnancy-related problems etc, so it'd be helpful if you could have this information about hubby's family too as much as possible - although if your hubby's anything like mine it'd be worth asking MIL rather then him anyway!

    Congratulations on your pregnancy

MW did our booking appointment at home and it just so happened that we had returned from a camping trip the day before so both had the day off anyway. If I'd have had to go to hospital, he would probably not have bothered as his work are really strict about holidays and he hasn't got many days left.

My hubby came, he is self employed too so didn't get paid although it was lunch time and he was working locally so it was ok. He sat quietly in the corner and did nothing except answer 2 or 3 questions then he weighed himself calculated his BMI so I would say that meant he was bored but he kept the mw amused! xx
