I have my booking in appointment what kinda of family history do they need to know about?
Sorry for the stupid question!

History of heart disease, birth defects, diabetes etc.
Hearing loss, eye sight.
My oh is adopted so made filling out the forms interesting!

Thank you! Luckily don't have anything like that on my side, I bet it was difficult! How did u manage?

Ethnicity is the only other one I can think of.

They basically need to know about any genetic disorders or illnesses that are in your immediate family. I found it hard to answer my side as I know nothing about my biological father, they didn't have a tick box for absolute d!ck.

She asked practically nothing of my husband. There was a really long questionnaire, she fired off the questions, I/we answered.
All the basics first, name, address, height, weight etc. Then medical history, any operations, any mental health stuff, any meds you're taking, vaccinations, all sorts.
Then family history, some just me some both of us. Including miscarriages/fertility issues in close family, diabetes, any hip conditions, loads of things, I can't remember a fraction of it! Like others I was restricted as I only know one side of my biological family
She asked whether baby was planned, where we want to give birth (which I found surprising so early on, especially as they've stopped tours of MLU and hospital).
She talked us through the planned care, who we would see and how often, and where. Gave advice re folic acid, food, vitamins etc. Gave us forms for blood tests etc (12 week scan) and clarified which testing we wanted done.
It was actually pretty boring and long-winded. Most of what she asked us we'd filled in in a questionnaire before she arrived so I was a bit frustrated and keen to get back to work!

not forgetting my favourite question 'is your husband the father of the baby' !!!
they do ask if you are at any risk of domestic abuse too, I assume only if your other half isn't with you.
10/09/2013 at 08:46
And are you and the baby's father related?
It's pretty dull tbh.

Thank you ladies!
I am really looking forward too my boring appointment now haha! H is coming with me so he can answer his side of the family questions... Domestic abuse must be if your alone I am guessing... I also loving is h the dad lol! Jeremy Kyle here we come! I will let you all know how I get on it's not until 3 though!
Did you have to do a urine sample?
10/09/2013 at 09:14
No sample. But I was given a pot to take to my first appt with her which we booked at the time.
10/09/2013 at 09:38
That was my favorite isis- "are you related to the baby's father"
Luckily when I made my appointment they gave me a pack with the questionaire in so I could take it home and fill it out with H before the appointment. There were a couple of questions I had to ask my mum about.
i had to take a sample with me and she took a blood sample.
They allocated and hour & half for the appointment and majority of it was going through the questionaire with her as she added the info to the computer!

I took a urine sample with me and they did bloods too checking blood type etc.
