H thinks its 'boring' to get our children's friends books for their birthday presents. we have two LOs and TBH they have more than enough toys, I think its a good alternative. Opinions?

Books are great. Zoe certainly doesn't find books boring.
C's often gets books as presents (he was quite excited about the ones he got for his birthday last week so he certainly doesn't think they're boring) and I've bought them for other children - like your LOs, he already has so many toys!

Agree with JB - books are great, in my opinion children can never have enough and will last longer than toys!

I've bought books for a couple of my friend's children and they have loved them. I got the pop-up musical ones of Disney stories as they were quite young and wouldn't necessarily understand the words but could appreciate the noises and pictures more. I don't think they're boring at all.

I love getting books for E as she will read all day! I buy the big packs of books from the book people to give to people over here for birthdays so I'm boring too They are always well received.
We love books! Would never think they're boring. Can't ever have too many can you?

I prefer to be given a book than a crappy toy to be honest. I've given books as presents too.

Books are great presents IMO.
However please don't do what my MIL did... which was turn up to the hospital the day after I gave birth with a huge heavy bag full which I then had to carry home along with all the other stuff we'd accumulated during my stay!! Did she think I would read them all to my newborn?!
Also... this has reminded me of this hilarious Youtube clip...

Im forever buying books for children and adults of all ages. Theyre a lovely intellectual gift even if theyre the more comedic ones. Hubby is dyslexic and wants us to read the baby a bed time story near enough from the get go, Ive explained that wont change her being dyslexic or not but he still thinks it may help bless him. She will have books though, I did as a baby and it helped settle a routine and probably explains why Im so obsessed with reading hahahaha x
