This is going to sound very odd, but I was talking to a friend who said she had to have her toenail polish removed when she had her emergency c-section.

I was planning on having a nails inc 3 week manicure and pedicure before the baby came but the polish needs to be specially removed which would be a problem (unless there was a nails inc technician onhand in the operating theater!).

Has anyone else heard about this?

Hiya, I seen this from the home page so thought I would answer. The reason you can;t have nail polish is because one of the checks the hospital staff do before during and after any surgery is to see the colour your fingers and toes are under your nails to make sure blood is circulating properly ect. Hope this helps.

Yep, all nail and toenail polish needed to come off before my section, so I'd advise leaving the manicure until after the birth!

Not only do they check the color of you fingers for refil time (the time it takes your blood to return should be less than 2 seconds) but they check your oxygen saturations. That is the amount of oxygen that is in your blood. It should be 100% or just under (especially if you are a smoker). By doing that they can check to see if you need extra oxygen. The machine doesnt work properly if you have polish on, or falsies.

    Hope that makes sense,

Thanks for your replies. Goodness knows when I'll manage to have another manicure after the baby comes though!

    G/C!

I didnt have any polish on my finger nails but I had a pedicure a few days before I ended up having a csection and they didnt make me remove it, in fact they pulled the surgical stockings back so my toes peeped through as they thought it was funny that I had green socks on with purple toes whilst having my baby
