My NCT class has been cancelled due to low numbers :( They've said they will refund the full monies paid for the course, but haven't mentioned NCT membership fee. I paid around £40 upfront for that I think, and only ever had / took it because I had to for the class sign-up process. I've asked that the membership fee be refunded as well. Has anyone got any experience of this / classes being cancelled and whether they got the membership fee refunded too? Am I going to have a battle on my hands?

I don't see why they won't refund it I am very surprised that they made you pay it when we did NCT classes the membership was optional and I decided not to as felt £40 was steep for what it offered.

Not sure about membership fee but as its not compulsory to join as a member in order to do the classes they might refuse to refund it :(

Oh no! I can't find the e-mails now but the way it was worded made it seem like it was compulsory - there definitely wasn't an option not to pay it when I signed up from what I remember. Could individual branches do it differently perhaps? Or I've just made a massive oversight. How annoying. I'd of never of paid it if I didn't think I had to as part of the classes!

I didn't pay either, and I thought I'd be in the minority but actually I don't think anyone in my class paid the membership fee. There was an option to opt out when I booked mine so if you end up getting your refund and rebooking I'd ask if you can not pay the membership.
Is there a class running in a nearby area you can transfer to?

There was a little box to untick if you didn't want to become a member too but it's really unclear and I only spotted it as I was against costing myself extra money. They def make it look like its non-optional unless you really read it all!

Flossy - There is but its half an hour away and its right at the end of my pregnancy so I'd be worried that I wouldn't be prepared enough in advance if that makes sense. I'm planning on just doing the NHS ones. I know a few people who are going to be on maternity leave at the same time as me so I'll just try to latch onto them. The main reason for doing the course was to meet others. Oh, and I've just realised that the date (its a weekend course!) clashes with a good friends wedding, so I'd of been unable to go anyway!
PurpleStar - Wow, I've just learned an expensive lesson then! Always read the small print! I think I must have skimmed it because thats what I tend to do, but also the original email had all the prices and included the membership fee and didn't say it was optional so I just assumed I was going to have to pay what I had to pay, if that makes sense!

pep I bet they'll refund it, just kick up a stink about them cancelling the classes and how unhappy you are. I bet they'll give you the money back.

I've had a bit of too and fro with my classes which is a long story and I won't go into it, howvwer the lady has been more than halpful and understanding. They acyually cancelled the second course I was booked onto and she couldn't have been more helpful, I bet they'll refund it for you. It's pretty crappy customer service if they don't!
