Hi. How many car seat bases do you have in comparison to how many cars? H & I both have our own car. I intended to just get 1 x Isofix base, but stupidly ordered the wrong one (non-isofix) and I've only just realised so can't send it back. I thought I'd keep that one and H can use it in his car. Its a company car though and hes fairly new so has mentioned that he doesn't know if he should have a car seat base permanently in the back, I said put it in the boot? We would also use this one for if they are going to Grandparents / out with anyone else. I'd then order Isofix one (the one I mean to get!) for my car and it would stay in there (H is insured on it, so chances are on family days it would be in this car etc). Just don't know if its a waste of money.... What have you done? Thanks.

We were considering two bases but the one we have is isofix and it pretty easy to move in and out- so I don't think we'll bother now.

Could kick myself for getting the wrong one and not even noticing! I took my niece out the other day and her base is non-isofix and it took SIL ages to set-up (she's 1+ now though so the seat was generally much bigger etc). I'd try and sell it but its not like its going to be easy to ship, they are sooo heavy!

We have two isofix basis for newborn seats, one in each car and then when baby is older and I am back at work, we will keep one in the family car and one in my Dad's car as they will care for baby. they do leave a bit of a inprint in the car seats but this does go,

We have an isofix one for my H car as his is our main family car, I have a non isofix base in my car- so glad to have both it makes it so much easier!

Thanks all. Noodle - useful to know, maybe I will order the isofix one then and keep the non-isofix for H or whoever needs it! :)

I didn't have it too start with so we had the isofix in my H car and I seat belted the car seat into my car which was fine but then my friend offered me hers and I'm glad I took it! In the rain etc it's so much quicker

Looking at our childcare plans, I think we'll need 3. Some days I'll do the drop off and OH will pick up or vice versa. Occasionally we'll need my parents to do the pick up as well, so they'll need a base as well. If parents are happy to pick a base up from our house while we're out, before going to the nursery, it will save one base, but an extra may just be easiest all round! Hopefully the nursery will let us leave the car seat itself there for the day, or we'll need extra seats too!!

H and I both have a car. I drive the bigger of the two and, as it's our main car for going out as a family, the Isofix base stays in there. We've never had any reason to put it in anyone else's car to be honest, F never goes out with anyone else.
Initially, I had a smaller car so at weekends we'd swap the base over to H's car. It just made sense for me to have the main car and leave the base in there permanently

We had one isofix base in one car and a fixed rear facing from birth car seat in the other. Cheaper than 2 bases and the other car seat is meant to last until 4, so we're still using that one. Depending on the size of the seat (some have a larger upper weight limit than others) you may only get 9 months use, so it's a lot of extra outlay for a short period of time to buy extra bases. They also become very heavy to carry. We'd simply swap cars if needed rather than faff about changing seats about.

We just have the one base, it's isofix so dead easy to move from one car to another.

I would just use the non-isofix base for yourself and not bother with any others. The advantage of the base is that you don't have to strap the seat in each time, but if you are having to put the base in and then the carseat it kind of defeats the object so wouldn't get one unless it was staying in permanently.

We can't have bases in our car so we just belt the seat in. If you do it right it's safe. It takes me about 15 seconds!

We just have one, it lives in my car while I'm on maternity leave but if at weekends or holidays we know we'll be using H's car a lot then we move it over.

We don't have a base. The seat is permanently in my car and that will be it for a while. I'm trying to use the car seat as little as possible anyway. We'll swap cars based on who has baby. When we start using external childcare we'll rethink.

What jelly baby said. If you're having to fit the base each time it kind of defeats the purpose so I'd just put the seat in without the base

I wondered about this too pep!
If an isofix base is that easy to transfer over we might just get one. We'd only use H's car on a weekend I think so might be ok to work it like that. Or just strap the seat in.

We only have one car now but did have two and only bought one base. He's in the car with the base 90% of the time anyway. If T goes in my mums car now we just belt him in, it's still perfectly safe. When I eventually get another job T will be in the next stage seat anyway, and instead of buying two bases and a seat, we will just buy two seats with built in isofix and mum can have one full time (she will be main childcare).
