We have a Connecta which is fab, easy to use and will last ages, I was still using mine up to about 2.5yrs with Jacob. You can do front and back carries with it. They are about £60 but well worth it IMO, due to longevity of use and excellent resale value.

Another vote for the connecta. So easy to put on, lightweight and fold up small. We are using loads at the mo on holiday. Worth every penny as they sell on well. They come in loads of lovely prints too :)

Thanks margot, both H and I like the idea of a sling so this would be great as it can do both front & back (though I think they need to be older for back don't they? )

They can go on the back once they can hold their head well, so from around 6 months depending on the baby. It takes a bit of practice to get them on your back on your own but once you've mastered it, it's easy.
