No i'm not up the duff but I always thought i'd like 3 kids (altho, i'm not so sure at the mo, 2 is enough for now!) However our car is going for MOT tomorrow and as its 18yr old and cost an arm+leg last year in repairs, we're thinking it might time to get shot of it.
The sensible half of me says we should sell my horse trailer and buy a 'normal' family car that is cheaper in repairs/parts and does more MPG. The non-sensible side wants to get another whacking great 4X4 capable of towing 2 massive horses (i only own one at the mo and he is on the verge of retirement due to ringbone/various issues!)
Whatever we get needs to be future proof i.e. can take 3 carseats ...... any thoughts or recommendations?

We have a Megane (61 plate) and i reckon it's capable of taking 3 car seats if it needed to. My inlaws have 3 car seats in a Mercedes B Class.

Okay thanks. I dont think our budget will stretch to anything that new - we have approx 3k plus whatever our current car is worth (was offered 750quid for it the other day!, might be able to get a few more quid, but not much more)

You might be able to get more if you scrap it? i know there were scrappage schemes about, but don't know if they're still on the go or not. You used to be able to get £1k if your car was over 10 years old.
Even just as a guide for you. looking at Vauxhall Merivas, Zafiras or Citroen Picassos, or Renault Scenics? They might be a good size, and you can get used ones at £2-3k from Arnold Clark.

I have three seats in the back of my Renault Scenic (a HBB, stage 123 and an infant carrier).

We both have one child from our first marriages and now have a 4 week old so we needed a car with three car seats! After extensive research by my partner the best we could find was the Renault scenic - we actually got a grand scenic so it has 2 extra seats in the back as we potentially might try for another in a year or so... However we don't use the back 2 seats as the three car seats fit comfortably in a row. The scenic is also the same width so we'd have had that if there wasn't a chance we might have another child in the future.

Also just to mention some of the cars you'd think would fit don't so it's worth checking - we looked at a 7 seater quashqui (don't know how to spell it!) but we weren't planning on using the back 2 seats at all yet - however the 3 car seats would not fit on one row together, meaning one child would always be alone in the back. The only ones we found that fit comfortably were scenic, grand scenic and Picasso

We've got a Ford C-Max and I can get three car seats across the back, though it is a slight squeeze.
