Isobelle has developed a nasty cough. It was only at night time but it seems to have got worse & she does it during the day. It's a horrible phlegmy cough that is rattly. She is obviously coughing something up. It doesn't seem to bother her hugely but sounds awful. We've had a busy weekend but I managed to pop into Tescos (I didn't realise that it didn't have a pharmacy) but I could only find dry cough syrup for under 6's. My hubby then tried on Sunday but the chemist at boots told him they don't make it for under 6's. We've given her the dry cough mixture (just honey & lemon I think) & tonight she's had a bath with a sink full of olbas oil (the best way I think I can steam her!!) put baby vicks on her chest & feet & raised her mattress. Is there anything else I can do?

Hi I've always been told that you shouldn't try to suppress a chest cough as the mucus needs to clear. You've already done everything I would have suggested to make her more comfortable. Hope she feels better soon x

Thanks CV, I did wonder why they didn't sell chesty cough mixture. She's not overly bothered but I'm sure she must be waking herself in the night with it.

WCVS. I've always been told you shouldn't try and mask a baby's cough as it could be an indicator if something more serious arises. It sounds like your doing everything you can - I can't think of anything more. Have you tried a plug in? Or some drops of olbas oil on a muslin tied to the bars of her cot? I really hope she's better soon x

What cv said, much better to let them cough (obviously if feverish and well needs to see gp to consider abs) I wouldn't waste money on cough syrup all it is is sugar
