When number two came along for you and assuming you already had your first in childcare what did you do when you started maternity/number two arrived?
Did you take number one out entirely, or reduce hours, etc?

We carried on the same hours (1 full day in private nursery and an afternoon at pre school) - and infact we have increased his hours to 2 full days at nursery plus a morning at pre school since Easter as he now gets his 15 funded hours.

I reduced the hours so that she would keep her place and the continuity. She just went two mornings a week.

We kept her in nursery as we didn't want to lose her place. Like goldfish she actually did more as she also got her funded hours so went to preschool as well.

We kept l in nursery for 2 days a week. I was concerned we may lose her place, and it was a bit of a break for me and her really. Not sure if it still happens or the law is still in place but my employer paid for my childcare vouchers when I was only earning SMP.

We kept A in nursery one day a week as like Pelican Beach said your employer has to pay your vouchers if you're just on SMP so it didn't cost us anything to send her. If that wasn't the case I would have taken her out

I've kept preschool hours the same but Ned no longer goes to my mum's on Monday and Friday.
Mum tends to come here instead to help out/play etc

Currently S is in nursery 4 days and mum 1 day but as off 2 weeks time he'll drop to 3 shorter days at nursery. Reason I've kept him in is a) he loves it , b) I need time with just baby without feeling guilty about not giving him attention, c) he starts school in September and it'd be too much to be at home all summer then start school and d) with funded hours and ccv it's not really costing much anyway

Thanks for the replies. Food for thought

G still goes to our chikdminder 2 days a week to keep her in a bit of a routine. She also gets time out from grumpy sleep deprived mummy and loud baby sister to play with friends of her own age x

I'm not working, but we started our boy in nursery 2 mornings a week so he is settled and has time away from the craziness when the new baby comes. Eventually we will increase so when he gets his funded hours ( next year) he's established

Our plan is to take A out of the childminder, keep him at home, then start him in nursery when I (or H, if we split the leave) goes back to work, and either put number 2 in with a childminder or with the same nursery.
