What do you give your children when they have a cold if anything? Molly is nearly 4 and she is really suffering, so far she has had calpol and her chest rubbed with Vics but is there anything else I can do? she is still drinking a lot but says she has a sore throat today but I think this may be because she was snoring like a tractor overnight!

I use calprofen rather than calpol. I have a gp in the family and he told me that calpol only actually lasts for 2 hours but you can only give it every 4 so the poor little ones are suffering again for 2 hours. calprofen lasts the 6 hours you're meant to have between doses. made a world of difference to mine since I found this out!
if her throat is sore make up a virgin hot toddy for her - honey in some warm water. my son (3.5yrs) sips this quite happily. I do also sometimes give him a teaspoon of golden syrup as it is thick and coats the throat for him.
(he does have a super healthy diet the rest of the time but I feel that when they are ill and not eating well a bit of sugar is a good thing for them.)

Cough medicine and calpol and vics/olbas oil.
Calpol only if she's got a temperature.
Otherwise nothing much, I don't think there's much you can do for them that really makes a difference. I'm not even convinced that the cough medicine does anything much but she likes it. (She's 6 and, to be fair, doesn't suffer too much with colds)
