Had midwife booking-in appointment today. Whilst happily booking me for a homebirth, she also says I have to go to a consultant to chat about 3rd degree tear. She assures me it will be a "box ticking" exercise but even so I feel uneasy about it. Will I be in for an argument with them??
I had a huge argument with a consultant in last pregnancy, and I really can't be bothered this time. I know my rights, if I want a homebirth (or whatever) i can damn well have one. Can't be doing with the arguments though.....

My consultant appt following a 3rd degree tear was to assess the likelihood of it happening again. For me I also hada PPH so she wanted me in hospital to be monitored. I suspect if it was just the tear and no other complications then it would have been pretty much a box ticking appt.

I didn't see the consultant for mine. It was more for baby's size. Hopefully it's just a tick box exercise and you'll get your homebirth x

I've been told that if we went for a 3rd I would need a c sec due to a combination of a 3rd degree tear and the size of B

Same as Garfield. I was told that my 3rd degree tear meant that any subsequent pregnancies would have to be a c section.
Big respect for you for considering a home birth, it was bad enough being transferred to labour ward with my tear, no way could I do it from home to hospital!
