A terribly sad story, but I think there's more to it as the couple are now saying they didn't know of his existence, although not sure if this can be true if it was a proper agency etc they went through. I think in the uk the surrogate is legally responsible though till the baby is born, she didn't want to terminate for religious reasons, in the uk In that situation then parents are offered terminations right up till term if there's a clear medical issue (the only issue is that after certain points different methods need to be used) but the surrogate obviously has a right over her body and what is effectively a procedure she would have to go through so due to her beliefs she obviously felt she had to continue with the pregnancy.

This seems a complicated story with information from only one side.
The massive cynic in me says what proof is there that this couple even existed or that this child was intended for a surrogate couple? Who is to say that this child isn't atcually biologically hers and it is an easy way to raise money by using outrage at the other people who apparently took one child but not another.

Thanks for the info on UK surrogacy TRF.

The weirdist thing for me in the article is her saying how much she loves the baby. I thought the biggest qualification for being a surrogate is being able to detach yourself from the pregnancy as it isn't your child.
What do you think Raye-Raye?

To be honest, I thought it was very strange but mostly selfish of the biological parents.
If the couple were aware of the baby there is no way they should've abandoned him. They should've taken the child and if they decided they didn't want to keep him, put him up for adoption the legal way.
I completely understand that the surrogate mother carried the child but it's not her baby! I fear that this kind of story will affect surrogacy in a negative light. I think it's a heroic thing to do but couples changing their mind at the last minute for whatever reason is a massive thing. I can't imagine going through all that only to have to keep the baby...
