P has started to roll onto her side in her crib and sometimes gets a leg stuck between the bars. The only thing i can think of to prevent this happening is to put a cot bumper round the bottom part of the crib but are they still considered a no-no??

I was told they no longer are considered to increase SiDs risk, but if legs are the issue i'd go for an Airwrap.
we use this instead www.johnlewis.com/.../p231391274

We used bumpers for this reason. Her legs got so chubby that they used to get wedged between the bars and she'd wake up screaming. Sometimes it was a real struggle to squeeze all the rubbery folds back through the bar and I was always worried she'd hurt herself if she twisted it. ( god I love rubbery chubby babies!!!)
I just made sure the bumpers were tied on really well and checked them regularly.

It scared me last night as she woke me up really crying and i leapt up in the dark and picked her up but her leg was jammed between the bars. Makes me feel sick that i probably could have broken her leg so need to do something and yes it was awkward freeing her as she has podgy baby legs and she wouldnt bend it!

Same issue here MM - really is horrible - E was left with a bruise as she'd wiggled to free herself, after that she was banned from the cot until the Airwrap arrived. We've got the bumper too - but it didn't cover as much as i'd hoped (we've a solid ended cot), i'll see if I can share a pic. Have you tried it in, see if it will actually solve the issue, if it would i'd personally stick it in.
The airwrap is brilliant for this problem and S hasnt had a problem with it. Kiddicare sell them too.

We used an airwrap and it was great.

FSIDS no longer recommend against using cot bumpers, however this time I have bought an airwrap one, actually ours is SafeDreams as they were on offer on Zulily

They look good. Same issue here do I've tucked a sheet under the mattress then between the bars on the other side so it goes under the mattress again.
