Hi ladies, I hope I don't sound really silly asking this but for the past few days I've had a really sore buttock. It feels very much like a pulled muscle and seems to get worse at night when I've been sitting for any length of time and then start walking again.

Could this be anything to do with my pregnancy? My first thought was maybe I'm starting to get SPD but I'm only 6+5 and everything I've read seems to say it wouldn't start to at least 12wks and it's nowhere near the agony all the websites describe so I'm just curious what you all think? xx

It doesn't sound pregnancy related, because ur muscles in ur bum dont stretch, although if the baby was laying on some kind of nerve or something but ur only very early still an the baby wouldn't make that sort of pressure. Maybe u have slept funny or something? x

Hopefully that's what it is excitedmummy2be! It's only because it has lasted about 4 days now that I was starting to think it could be something else, though I am trying to get used to sleeping on my side so maybe that's just not agreeing with me! x

My SPD started in my left buttock. I went to the physio the other day and she explained about there 3 parts of the pelvis and she said that sacro-illiac joint on the left side had gone to lose and its causing my joint to lock. It does feel like a muscle is pulled.
I hope for your sake its not spd!!

I also suffer from spd. while sometimes it feels like a shooting pain up the middle at other times it feels more like sciatica. also feels worse at night time. I'm 27 weeks though so pressure from baby seems to be the cause. hope it's not this for you. x

sounds to me like it could be sciatica, mine was in my bumcheek, felt like somehting ahd popped out of place. does it feel that way anywhere else? in particular ur knee and/or ankle? it would be rtaheer early to be spd but having said that i'm 9+1 (second baby tho) and for a week now i get on and off feelings like someones kicked me in the foof!...would be a good idea to mention it to ur mw or gp, as either way getting physio or support bands for it now will help to prevent it getting too bad later on. xx

My knees click when I walk upstairs (have done for a long time now) would this mean I'm going to be prone to sciatica or SPD? At the minute the pulled muscle feeling is only in my left bumcheek and goes to the very top of my leg xx

at the moment I find baths help the aches and the doctor says that if I can manage justctaking paracetamol then great, which I am. Don't get me wrong it bloody hurts but i've found doing this helps. I'm a hairdresser so being on my feet all daydoesn't help. try keeping your knees together when getting out of bed, off the couch or out the car. Sitting down when taking trousers and things on or off. And try sleeping with a pillow between your knees. hope this helps you.

    Hi,
Sounds like sciatica to me too. You feel that in your bum mainly for most people. I had awful sciatica between 7 weeks and around 18 weeks pregnant. I even ended up in A&E! The doc told me it's a myth too that it only comes later with weight, sciatica can come early as the nerves get trapped.
I advise you to get it checked out if you can because if it is sciatica you will need some advice to help it! I spent weeks without getting diagnosed resting to try to get rid of mine, only to find out that this is the worse thing you can do for it!
    Good luck x

Hi huni, that's how my back pain really kicked in. I was around the same as you and I had just carried a heavy box so thought it was just a pulled muscle. I mentioned it to the mw who referred me to the physio. Not sure whther my back pain is spd, the physio gave me a brochure about it but just mentioned that everything gets loose at the beginning of pgcy, and that it had probably woken up an old injury... Just ask your mw to refer you to the physio xxx

    Hi Huni,

I had this around the 10 weeks stage. I was worried it was SPD too. It was pretty much a constant pain that went down my buttock and top of my leg. The pain could stop me in my tracks. It lasted for about a week and a half and then just disappeared. Hope yours does too x
