From constantly changing O's milk and adding gaviscon etc we have stage 1, 2 and 3 teats. Were on nutramigen with no thickeners or anything so am using stage 1 teats but are we supposed to up the size?
What is the thought process behind this? Is it because they need the milk quicker? I thought they would be able to suck harder so wouldn't have a problem with the teats?
Is it just a sales thing or should you up the teats?

I don't know if you 'need' to, but we changed W's teats from the first stage to the vari-flow ones, which i kind of wish i'd just used from the beginning, but the stage one teats were the ones we got when we bought the bottles (We use Tommee Tippee ones)

Thanks RKB, we use mam bottles so you don't get a variflow teat, it just goes up in stages.
I wasn't sure if it was just a gimmick to get people to spend more but I've already bought them!

I read somewhere that you don't really need to change sizes if they're coping ok with the flow. S was still having aptamil comfort with gaviscon through a 1 size until last week which is like maple syrup! We kept offering a bigger size but he couldn't cope with it. He's just got used to the 2s this week! The kid can suck!

Wow, he must have jaws of steel! We had O between 2's and 3's with comfort and gaviscon as you say it was like maple syrup. I remember holding the bottle up and not a drop coming out!

Alex has size 3s when he has an expressed bottle as otherwise he takes in too much air and also takes forever to drink a bottle. Since he switched to size 3s he can drain 7oz in a remarkably impressive amount of time!

My hubby & nursery gave my daughter bottles of my expressed breast milk from 3 - 13 months & in that time I didn't know there were different sized teats as we were given a lot of tt bottles so she stayed on size 1 the whole time. Whoops!!

We did change test sizes when he seemed to struggle with getting the milk fast enough. We also upped a size when using comfort milk as it was thicker.

I've noticed he let's go of the teat and I hear the air bubbling back into the bottle and he us getting quite windy again so I might move up to the 2's again now. I tried him on a 2 when we started the nutramigen but his sickness was worse so not sure if it was too fast but this was about 8 weeks ago so maybe different now

We moved L from size 1 to vari-flow from very early on. It made such a difference to her feeds as she wasn't struggling to get milk out anymore.
