Hs birthday is the end of Jan and I'm trying to decide whether to have a party for him or not. We dont have many friends with lo but have been to 4 1st birthday parties this year so would invite these lo.
im just not sure it's worth it as it seems more a party for the parents but we'd probably have to hire a hall as our house isn't v big. Did you think it was worth it? I feel H is missing out if we don't have one but then im not sure he will actually even notice!

We did. I only knew 1 other child J's age (my niece), so it was mainly for the adults.
Was nice for everyone to celebrate his first year. J won't remember, but I will, and we took loads of pics to show him.
for me, it was about making memories, I could capture for him.

We just did 1 at home & spread it across quite a few hours so people came & went in that time. The children seemed to have fun playing with toys. We also did a family day out the day before (on her actual birthday) & went to the farm which was great fun (beginning of Feb) so maybe just do a family day out

I had 1st birthday parties for all of mine but just had very small ones and had them in my house. The adults outnumbered the children at every party! I guess its more about the parents than the child at that age but we had cakes and took loads of photos

Did you have a christening for him? We had a big "welcome party" when he was 6 months old and it was a chance for the extended family to meet him and celebrate his arrival. If we hadn't done that then yes we'd have done a big 1st birthday party instead. But because we've already done the 'big' party for him, we're just going to do a small thing at home with our parents and siblings (none of whom have kids yet so it'll remain fairly small in numbers, I understand that's not an option for everyone!)

P's birthday was on a Thursday so H had the day off and we had a day out to the zoo and a nice tea just us 3. Then on the Saturday we had a little party just for grandparents/aunts/uncles etc. P was the only child there as she's the only grandchild on both sides so far. We'll probably do the same this year for her 2nd birthday, especially given i'll be 8 months pregnant!

For a 1st birthday I wouldn't hire a hall personally. I'm too tight/lazy. We had a 'party' for Harry's first but we sort of spread it and the small kids we knew (3 I think) came around 3 or 4pm and we had adults (most of whom were working) come around 5 or 6pm at the end of their day so there weren't too many at once, not just for space but it's a lot for a kid at once :)
