I was telling H they rarely go before contractions start but about 4 people I've spoken to have disproved me! So now I'm thinking how embarrassing it'd be if they went somewhere public. Has it happened to any of you?

I've heard that they are likely to go when you are feeling relaxed, I'm not sure how true it is but it was the case for me. I was in bed and feeling dozy then felt like I was wetting myself. I've often wondered just how embarrassing it would be if they went in public though, maybe wear black trousers?!

I'd have sooner they went in public than in a huge gush all over the mw (and I mean ALL over!) when she did internal examination on arrival at hospital....mortified! That said, seeing as I needed to push the second they went I'd say I'm lucky I wasn't at Asda!

The relaxed thing was true for me- I was watching trashy Saturday night tv at home!

You gonna start hanging around in M&S love? ;)

No and i was gutted. First time popped for me in hosp, 2nd time she was born in them

Relaxed thing for me too. Took H to work and I was chilling in the sofa with a cuppa watching my recorded stuff. Sharp pain, pop and then everywhere!

Nope. The bag of waters was hanging out when I got to 10cms and midwife offered to break them so the mess could be 'caught' which aI was at home, this seemed like a jolly good plan! but actually now I wonder if she would have been born in them :-)

With C, they exploded over my MW, and about 15 other people who were in the room (MW, students, consultants etc)
With J, they gushed outside McDonalds, on a busy market day in town. Yeah, wasn't embarrassed in the slightest then...

Well my hire car is being delivered in a minute so would be amusing if they went in the car! Presumably it won't have leather like my own car. Is that classed as an act o god for insurance purposes?!

My friends went in asda on the weekly shop with her mum and sister hahahaha x

I was asleep in bed!
Contractions started an hour later.

The relaxing thing worked for me. I was laying on the bed on my laptop, pop and a gush. Luckily the loo is about 5 steps from the bed! Sat on it and full on contractions started straight away! Got to the maternity in the nick of time. 2 pushes and he was out!
Had them broken at 6cm the first time.

You so should have come to Ben & Holly!

Mine started to go when I was lay on the sofa laughing my head off with H. First I thought Aww surely just wee (Though I should have figured as it hasn't happened all pregnancy) then more as I went to the loo then a real pop and gush as I lay in bed that night. Contractions were about 7 hours later.

I keep dreaming about mine going in bed / during the night. I wake up dry and very confused!

With my first, for some reason just as I was dropping off to sleep on my due date I felt I had to go to the loo, they went just as I got into the bathroom (thank goodness for tiled floors). Definitely what I'd call relaxing, but not for long!
With my second they went in the labour room, and C arrived about 2 pushes later.

Lamby - I was convinced my waters would go in bed (I had an old granny lady waterproof mattress type protector on, as well as the normal one) and I was right!
07/05/2013 at 13:33
Hubby was convinced mine would go in the car, so I had to sit on a plastic bag for a few weeks. In the end they went as I was being lifted off ambulance gurney and onto hospital one. They were mec too. It was a right mess.

Is it true that there is a certain supermarket that if your waters break while you are doing your shop, they will give you what ever in in your basket for free?!
or is this an urban legend?
