Thinking about getting nappies as and when I see a good deal now... only I don't really know what I need or what is a good deal! I'd like to get some of a few different brands so I can see which I like best. So...
Which nappy brand did you find best for your newborn? Are Huggies/Pampers better than supermarket brands? Are you loyal to a brand or do you swap and change depending on the prices?
How many would you recommend I get in advance of baby's arrival? Did you start with size 1? Should I also get some size 2?
What do you consider a 'good deal', if you're that kind of shopper?

Asda have been our preferred brand, and we use Pampers if we run out and need some in an emergency. I really dislike Boots ones.
We got in about three packs of size 1 pre-birth. We changed to size 2 at about 4 weeks old.
I just got one smallish pack of a few different brands to start. As I wasn't buying loads didn't worry too much about how much I was paying, the once we decided pampers leaked the least stocked up.
Re sizes, it really depends on the size baby you have and how quickly they grow, I wouldn't buy too many size 1's though. It's easy to buy more if you need them.
As I said, we found pampers the best and have stuck with them, I hated Huggies but my friend found the opposite (small girl, rather than large boy baby though).
The Asda's ones were on but I can never be bothered to go out of my way to a different shop just for nappies.

Have only tried huggies and pampers before going to cloth and had leaks in the huggies nearly every time. Hear aldis own brand are good

I've got a couple of packs of Sainsburys and Asda in size 1 and 2, will be avoiding Pampers or Huggies this time if I can due to the price. I would avoid buying too many in any size or brand in case your baby doesn't get on with them or grows out of that size quickly. I've never had a problem with supermarket nappies.

We used Asda Little Angels, they were great when he was a newborn.
Hated Huggies and Boots own, they leaked terribly. I wouldn't buy loads incase your LO doesn't get on with them. Look out for supermarket baby events.

I wouldn't buy more than 300 in first size and that's at a push as if lo is big they won't last and because you may not get on with them. IMO once you find one that works you stick with it.. E was in first size 6 weeks averaging about 10 a day. She moved to size 3 at 10-11 weeks. If a nappy is the right size IMO it won't leak so we change up when we get three leaks.
Huggies made Ella's bum very red very quickly. I'll now only use pampers.

H really liked the Pampers and Huggies over anything else because they have a wetness indicator. TBH all the nappies we tried (Pampers, Huggies, Asda and Naty) leaked wee in the early days. I suspect we should have been using the Micro nappies (size 0) for a better fit - although they SAY only up to 5lb and A was nearly 7lb, we tried one on him in hospital and it didn't leak. Could be coincidence, but next time I'd get a very small pack of the micros just to try them.

I normally use asda and pampers, although trying tesco at the moment, I bought a box of pampers in size 1, 2, and 3 which has been really useful as none have been wasted as he's only just going into size 3 now. I found huggies always leak

From size 3 up I'll be using Lidl nappies this time - have just found them as we're trying to potty train Jacob but they are excellent quality and only £4.69 for 44 nappies in size 5 so will be even better in sizes 3 and 4, unfortunately they only do them from size 3.

We used Pampers for the first couple of weeks and then changed to Asda's Little Angels and I didn't notice the difference - other than the price!

We use Pampers and have done since day 1
We did try Huggies but had leaks so went back to Pampers.
I've bought 2 large packs for home and 1 small pack for the hosp bag this time. All size 1.
Never bothered trying any other brand since the very early days.

We use pampers and are stil in size 1 at nearly 9 weeks. h was almost 9lb at birth and over 11lb now bit he's q slim Su think that's why they still fit
We hated sainsburys own, boots were ok.
I would only buy one pack of each as you just don't know which size they will need.
Also pampers are worth the money for us as v few leaks etc. haven't tried asda though

Personally I signed up to all the online parenting groups (Asda, boots, pampers, tesco, sainsburys) & got lots of freebies or very cheap nappies in sizes 1 & 2. We liked Asda little angels but there isn't an asda near us so haven't used them beyond 1 & 2. I love huggies & bought them in bulk when I found out they were no longer selling them in the UK & so managed to get boxes of 64 size 4's for £8. We've also bulk bought on cheeky bots as they seem to be really good & half price at the mo in tesco. I never liked the smell of pampers nappies so haven't bought any after the initial freebie/cheap ones. Wasn't overally impressed with the boots ones either.

We used pampers from newborn as we got loads of vouches and free sample packs of them. I only got size one in as we knew she was going to be little. From about 2 months we moved to ASDA and have stuck with them. Have the price of pampers and just as good, if not better. Huggies are rubbish but i think they've stopped making them anyway. We've used sainsburys own once or twice as they are the nearest big shop and they are ok but i much prefer ASDA.

Thanks everyone. Interesting how lots of you found Huggies leaked. I'll avoid those for now. Lots of good info and tips for me to think about though.

I've never had any problems with huggies and stocked up when the supermarkets were selling them off cheap cos they don't make them anymore. I did tend to stick to pampers first time round as A leaked with some cheaper ones. Have had no problems with any brand with J though and just buy what's cheapest. We currently have a mix of aldi, lidl and huggies on the go

We have used Huggies, Pampers, tesco newborn and Asda little angels and our preference is Tesco own. Pampers leaked terribly for S. We bought a pack of each and then my sister gve us a huge box of more Huggies which was great in the first two weeks as were perfect size. We have bought two boxes of Kiddicare nappies in size three for later as they were a steal at the time.

We started with Huggies and then moved onto Asda's own once he was past newborn size (in his case about 1-3 weeks). He's recently gone up to size four and the Asda ones don't seem to be as good, we tried both the comfort and active fit- I but the bullet and bought a box of Huggies superdry as Costco were still selling them which are great but now they don't sell Huggies anymore will try Pampers instead, as we can get them from Costco it works out about the same as supermarket ones price wise.
As others have said best to try a few different brands to see what works best- my friend swears by Wilkinsons own nappies, but they leaked within half an hour of J wearing them.

la, thats interesting about costco prices, how much do size 4's work out per nappy and do you have to buy them in huge quantities? I used to have a membership but didn't renew but could get a friend to take us along to stock up lol
