I am 33yrs old and both hubby and I have no family history of downs or other issues - at my 12 week scan I was told that I have a risk of 1 in 136 for DS and have been offered tests ... how likely is it that these tests are correct what options do I have ????

The test that they will very likely do i think is the CVS test where they put a needle through your abdomen & into the uterus to collect a small sample of amniotic fluid. This will be tested as it contains geneticinfo about the baby (they dont actually touch the baby / take a sample from the baby). The test is very accurate. There is though a small risk of miscarriage... It is small... But you really need to talk to your doc again to make sure he / she gives you all the info so you can make an informed decision. I guess for me, my other thought would be if the results did indicate downs, would that change my mind on keeping the pregnancy? If the answer is no then do you want to risk the CVS test (although it would help you to be prepared if you know in advance).
I hope things work out ok for you... I would def say you & your oh need to talk it through with a doc again... Its pretty bad that they offered this test but didnt explain anything about it! Its a big decision to make! X
