I've combined my maternity notes, mine and H's memory so its turned out quite long.Short version: Sunday 22 December 11pm- waters broke, Saturday 23 December 5am- arrived at hospital, contractions very irregular8am- transferred to Delivery suite and told contractions are still irregular, perhaps I should go home10:30- 5 cms, no way Im going home13:30-fully dilated14:46- Evelyn was bornCoedine and pethadine for contractionsG&A for labourThe Long version:My due date of December 14th came and went, on the 16th I had a sweep which didn't do anything. Baby was stil only 1/5 engaged. On the Friday 20th I had another, much more vigorous, sweep. Baby was still only 1/5 engaged but had apparently moved a little and the midwife thought that there had been some effect from the first sweep. I think she was just trying to keep my spirits up! We discussed another sweep on the Monday or Tuesday but decided that this baby would come when they were ready and I didnt want to risk the third one taking effect and me being in hospital over Christmas!H and I had accepted that we were heading for our booked induction on Boxing Day and 48 hours after the second sweep when nothing had happened, induction seemed certain. On the Sunday 22, we had a lazy day on the sofa. I had a few bowel movements during the day and I felt a couple of cramps during the day but thought nothing of it. At about 11pm, I got up to go to the loo and felt a little trickle, I went up to the loo and there was a little gush of liquid. I went back down stairs but before I could get to the lounge I knew there was another gush coming so headed back up to the loo. Decided to put a pad on! I went and told H that it looked like we may not make it to the induction! I called the hospital to tell them that my waters had broken but I was only having mild tightennings and they asked me to call back in an hour. H decided to put the bins out ready fo the morning and pack some of his things in a bag, don't think he had a clue what to pack but felt he should pack something! :-) During that hour I lost more waters but only had about 3 tightennings. I called them back at midnight and they said that I would need to be assessed 6 hours after my waters breaking so I should head to the assesment unit at 5 am unless in that time my contrations rammped up to 5 mins apart and lasting a min.H and I decided to try and get some sleep so headed to bed with lots of maternity sheets on the bed! However at 1am my contractions started ramping up. When one felt as though I had leg cramp in my tumming and made me double up, I decided that I should take a paracetamol at 2am. I only took one and was told by the midwife later that it was a childs dose! It soon became clear that I wasn't going to get any sleep and H kept rubbing my back and asking how I was doing so I knew I was keeping im awake. I decided to sit down stairs at 2:30 and start timing the contractions and counting down until it was time to head to the hospital. I sat on the sofa in my joggers and hoodie, on a maternity sheet! I felt tired yet at the same time, wide awake! At 3am I suddenly had a craving for a mug of Horlicks so trotted off to make myself one. My contractions were starting to come more often now but were only lasting about 30 seconds. My maternity pad got pretty drentched and they had asked me to take it in with me so I started working out the best way to transport it, I opted for a sandwich bag! My waters continued to go and at one point whilst in the bathroom, I decided to pluck my eyebrows to see if the pain from that would distract from the contraction pain. It didnt really! At about 4am I had a big gush of waters go. At 4:30 I started getting everything togther to head to the hospital and went to wake up H. He said he
