As usual I have an absolutely stupid question. I want to breast feed and am looking at various shawls etc to cover me and baby when feeding in public. What are muslins for? one site says covering while feeding another says as a replacement for bibs Then there are feeding shawls and nursing covers Im so confused. What are you using or have you used before?
Thanks in advance xxx

Muslins can be used for numerous things. You could use to cover up and you could use for a bib. We also used as an emergency nappy, to put under her head when laying down as was sick a lot so avoided changing sheets, make shift sun hat, sunshade on the pram (clipped to hood with 2 pegs), mopping up various spilt things, a changing mat ... they can be anything at all.

Pretty much WJBS, muslins have a massive range of purposes, even as baby gets older. I never used a feeding cover (I would assume that a nursing shawl is the same thing). I've heard lots of people use a large pashmina type scarf which are usually cheap on the market or in Primark, and I went for the two top approach - thin strapped vest under looser top, vest down and top up so you are covered then baby's head covers your boob. I did this for about two or three months until I was more confident feeding in public, then stopped bothering with the vest.

Wjbs! They have a multitude of uses hence why you should make sure you have loads. I never bothered with bibs, I used Muslins tied round his neck instead.

I mostly used them for mopping up sick, as J was an exceedingly vomity baby. My sister uses them for mopping up milk when her baby detaches from her boob and milk squirts everywhere. Very useful items!

Anything and everything!! I did use them as covers when BFing out and about. I'd tuck a corner under my bra strap and then it'd drape down and cover P and my boob.

I used muslins for everything too! I used pashminas to cover myself when breastfeeding x

Im really glad some of you used pashminas, some of the shawls Ive seen only come in black or blue, I was preparing to knit myself a pink one lol x

Markets are great for pashminas in all colours. Leather Lane market in London used to do 3 for £10!

I think I'm the only person in the world who doesn't care for muslins. I have one that I never use and I certainly wouldnt keep one in my change bag!

I use them for everything- sick/dribble mopping mostly but also on changing mats in case of accidents, wiping hands/nose, covering clothes when burping (there is always a little dribble and/or sick) J also loves to chew on them/ play peek a boo/ turn into a snake (handy when we're out and I forget a toy.
When BF I also used the two top approach- I couldn't get on with a cover I just always seemed to be faffing with it

We used them for mopping up sick etc. Also as a comforter for Olivia - if it got lost easy to replace even now at nearly 3 1/2 she will occasionally take one to bed with her. As for feeding I wore a vest top under another top and would pull top up and vest down so I was still covered.
