Hi, congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm not pregnant and I've not had any children before, so I may be wrong with this, however, as far as I am aware, you phone the doctor first, tell them that you are pregnant and they will normally give you an initial meeting appointment with the doctor and then get referred to the midwife for your first scan. There is more information on the NHS website, but it says that you make an appointment with your GP or a midwife, so don't worry, you've done the right thing. Congratulations again x

Youve done the right thing- each GP surgery is different so your GP will tell you the next step.
At mine you make a gp appointment then they tell you to make an appointment with the midwife at around 8weeks - that's the booking appointment where the midwife will give you a folder with notes in, she will take history of both you and your other half and will take bloods. Takes around an hour and she will send off for first scan appointment etc. Then tell you when she wants to see you again.
Hope that helps a little :)

thankyou both.. i think im stil abit shocked haha and it might not properly register until i see the gp/midwife etc.. but thankyou!
well i have an appointment next thursday so, hopefully after that it will set the ball rolling.. my other half said he is gonna come with me, so will the doctors take information off him too or is it just the midwife that does that?
both your messages helped as you can probably tell i was abit clueless haha, so thankyou!:)

As far as I am aware, the doctor probably won't take his notes, it will probably be the midwife, so that she can grasp if there are any possibilities of any underlying health issues passed down from both sides of the family, so that she can give you any vitamins that may help. I'm sure once you go to the doctor and the midwife it will sink in with you and you'll start getting really excited. Out of curiosity if you don't mind me asking, we you trying to conceive?

yeah i was thinking that myself. he said he is gonna come with me anyway cos he wants to be ther for every appointment and says he isnt missing anything lol!
yeah, once i go there im sure i will be, im excited for my appointment next week as its like the next step, so its making it abit more real but when i see the midwife i know ill be excited then haha!:)
and well, we've spoke about having a family for a long time & we've been talking about trying to start one since the start of the year and we decided that we werent going to use any contraception and sort of said when it happens it happens.. so i guess we knew it would happen eventually lol x

Its really good that he is wanting to go to every appointment with you, without you having to try an convince him haha.
It will start to sink in after the appointment and then you'll just want to go out and buy everything you need all at once! I'm wanting to buy everything already and I'm not even pregnant yet haha!
Oh wow, that was really quick of you to conceive! It must just be your time, someone's watching over you and has thought that you're ready haha. Good luck with your appointment next week though x
