Please forgive my indulgent post, but I just feel the need to tell someone!!
As many of you will know, our baby has cleft lip and most likely also cleft palate, as a consequence it is unikely that they will be able to breastfeed. I plan to try and express, so they will have EBM in a bottle rather than formula. I have been advised to try and express colostrum before they arrive so I have a supply in the freezer before they arrive.
My midwife warned me that I may not be able to... I sat down this morning to try for the first time ... and I managed to get 1ml ... now I know that this doesn't sound much but I am delighted and feel a bit emotional about it ... silly I know, but I feel like I am doing something constructive and it has made me feel really proud!!

That's amazing. Might need your tips as I'll have to start harvesting around 37 weeks.
What have you stored it in?

Rusty/WH - I just used my hands to express and caught the colostrum in a syringe (I got a load of 2.5ml sterile syringes from my midwife). It is now stored in the fridge, as i am going to try and get some more today. At at the end of each day I will then pop the whole syringe into a sterile breast milk storage bag (I got mine from Mothercare) and pop it in the freezer. HTH
