So ever since I was a kid and read to Kill a Mockingbird I loved the name Harper. Then the Beckhams used it. I'll be honest it's put me off it a bit, but it's still in the running as her middle name. The silly thing is if we'd been successful with conception when we first started trying she would have been Harper as the Beckhams daughter wouldn't have been born.
I know George has slipped down the charts since the royal birth. Would it put you off using a name you liked?

Hmm possibly. For me, it would depend firstly on the name and how much I had my heart set on, what my other name ideas are and who the celebrity/Royal used it.

It probably would put me off for two reasons-
It would then become more popular and I don't like the idea of my children sharing their names with other children- they should be the only ones in the world lol!
Secondly, people would assume you chose the name because of the celeb. you know that if you used the name peoples first reaction would be that it was the same name as the beckhams, not that it was the name from the book.
So it depends if that would bother you
I really really love the name Harper though

I had to think about it AR, but yes I think I've guessed x

I think it would put me off more if it were a really unusual name that a celeb had chosen, like Apple, as everyone would think I copied. If it were a popular name anyway which I loved, someone famous using it wouldn't make a difference. I think I know which name you're talking about, and it's lovely, so use it!

As soon as I saw this thread title I thought of Harper, as I loved the name and for the exact same reasons until the Beckhams! Very annoying! I'm torn really as I think if it was "the" name for me I'd go for it but I think you'd get tired of explaining all the time that you loved it before etc.

I loved Georgiana (nn Georgie) for a girl for a long time. H disliked it so it was unlikely I would have ever got to use it, but it did put me off when Prince George was born 2 months before.
It depends on how unusual it is, I'd probably use a George name this year because George isn't that unusual. Harper is more unusual, so it would put me off a bit but wouldn't necessarily stop me.
I expect Zara and Mike will use a slightly more unusual name, if I were naming a little person and they used 'my' name, I'd be in a bit of a quandry.
I wouldn't use compass points now, of I were that way inclined...

Prince George was born exactly a week before S and we didn't know what we were having. Our boy name
Was Charlie (family name) and there was quite a possibility that Charles would have been in there somewhere. If it had been, I would have seriously had to think twice about it.
