I'm 5 weeks and because I am trying to sort my weight a little bit I'm using My Fitness Pal to log everything. I think I'm eating really healthily (er... for me!). 3 or 4 fruit a day, some veg, some meat or fish, some potato or rice. No takeaways, no ready meals. Lots of water, some juice. Hubby is suggesting porridge pots as he's convinced that's the one missing ingredient in my pregnancy diet :)
When I looked on MFP (after reading the diet section of a pregnancy book!) I saw I am getting nowhere near enough calcium or iron and am often really low on Vit A or Vit C.
Then I think back to my first baby, who was grown mostly through the power of the malted milk and ginger nut (horrible 24/7 nausea) and I didn't really watch what I ate at all, and he was 9lbs 5 and is now a strapping 6ft 6 teenager.
How much did/do you change your diet in pregnancy? How much attention did/do you pay to getting all of the components that are recommended?

I didn't worry too much when I was pregnant as I had a fairly good diet, I just avoided the foods that were a no-no in pregnancy. If you take a pregnancy multivitamin, it'll give you all the necessary nutrients. I wouldn't worry about low levels of vitamin A as high levels can harm the baby.

I took multi vitamins.
I eat quite healthily anyway- lots of veg etc. I do make a conscious effort to eat more fruit though as I don't normally eat much.
And am trying to put cheese in everything at the moment as I hate milk so am very conscious now I'm in third tri about getting enough milk.
But I didn't cut anything out ( other than the things that aren't safe obviously). So as well as eating healthily I would also happily eat takeaways, mac d's etc.
My opinion is so long as I eat healthy stuff for baby I can also eat naughty fattening stuff for me. I'll worry about the weight if its bothering me when baby is six months old

I don't like milk but am having the odd milky hot chocolate as my effort to dairy! But I love cheese :)
I put on 5 stone when I was pregnant before as i was in bed nearly all the time, and eating and swelling. I don't want to go back there!!!

I didn't change my diet at all in any of my pregnancies, beyond taking the recommended vitamins. I did have a lot of weight to lose after my second but that wasn't just pregnancy related, and it definitely benefited me in the long term. I would just try to stick to a healthy balanced diet as much as possible.

My healthy eating went to shite when I was pg. I craved junk, and had at least 3 take aways a week...

I take my pregnancy vitamins!
My diet has been pretty shocking tbh, some days all I want is beige food so I'm just going with it

My diet was healthy in the sense I ate plenty of fruit and veg but I was eating a lot of cake and sweets. Initially I could barely eat as I had hyperemesis. At 34 weeks I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes so my sugary treats had to stop! I did feel better for it.
I'm veggie so ate quite a lot of cheese

I ate lots of fruit, veg and cake! With iron, I ate spinach every day - I have always liked it and had it regularly and probably ate more red meat as I fancied it more. I also took pregnacare. Calcium wise, I went off milk for the first 14 weeks but ate more cheese like you are. It sounds to me like you've got a really healthy diet! I ate what I fancied, including take aways, I just made sure I had lots of fruit and veg too. I still need to wean myself off my pregnancy cake diet though - it is not going well!

Tbh at the moment a lot of foods make me heave just thinking about them or smelling them, we've been living on a rubbish diet - pizzas, burgers and the likes. Plus by 3pm nausea sets in and I can't face preparing a decent meal. I'm going with it as I know once first tri nausea passes I'll likelygetbackin the swing of things and start eating better. Meantime I'm taking pregnancy vitamins

I am eating fairly normally so far. I have always eaten a fairly balanced diet. The portion sizes are smaller now, I am just not as hungry but I am having more snacks to make up for it.

I didnt change my diet at all with P but i do eat quite healthily anyway, plenty of fruit and veg etc. ALthough from 6 weeks to 17 weeks with her i couldnt eat anything really expect plain bread and pasta.
For now i'm just taking a pregnancy multi-vitamin. That covers all your essential vits etc.

Both GP and midwife told me just folic acid, no need for anything else. Sounds like that's not the norm.

I don't see any harm in taking a multi vit that covers everything, including folic acid. I don't buy the very expensive ones, just boots own, which if you check the ingredients includes pretty much the same.
