Little h is 2 and a half weeks old.
he started on 3 oz of formula 10 days ago and was feeding every 3 and a half hours..
he was guzzling all three so the midwife told me to put 4 oz in his bottles which I did. He now guzzles 4 and is not satisfied with this.
is this a growth spurt? Should I start giving him 5 oz? He seems to go 2 and a half hours between feeds during the day but he can go up to 4 hours at night.

I always worked on the basis that if the bottle was regularly being drained then I went up an ounce.

I would say if he is satisfied after a feed (ie not crying with hunger) but only going 2.5 hours, its possibly a growth spurt and i would feed the same 4oz more often as he needs it. If he is still hungry after 4oz and wont settle i would up it to 5oz x

WJBS, if he is draining it then add an extra ounce. There is a big growth spurt around 3 weeks, so it may well settle down again soon. 2.5 hourly feeds is pretty good for that age in my experience!

Sounds exactly the same as Heidi. I always make five now just in case!

Rusty... The length between feeds too? I think it's because he is awake more during the day so probably more aware of his hunger!

P goes around 3 hours between feeds in the day and 4-6 at night x

I'm amazed how many of you know how long your baby goes between feeds and that there actually seems to be a pattern. I remember keeping a note of it all for the first few weeks and it was totally random, 1 hr to 6 hrs and everything in between. I wonder if this baby will actually fall in to a routine, or more likely be forced in to one to fit around school runs etc.

Three to four hours during the day. Four to five at night.

IIRC, F was mostly every 3 hours. When going through a growth spurt we seemed to notice at night when he'd want feeding every 1-2 hours and wanting more! He briefly switched to four hourly feeds but these went back to 3 hourly once he started sleeping through - I think he was trying to get his quota of milk in during the day so that he was able to last all night. I can't for the life of me remember how many ozs he was having though.
