Morniing ladies - Mrs Bass, try not to overdo it too much
Hi BE :-)
ITS MY LAST DAY AT WORK!!!!!!!!!! Not sure how I feel yet.
04/10/2013 at 08:55
I saw LP had posted and wanted to stick my face in and yell happy last day at work lovely lady!!!!! Xxx
04/10/2013 at 09:02
Pace yourself Mrs Bass, sounds like a tough day ahead. No wonder you're looking forward to Sunday!
Morning BE! Glad all is well.
JT, have fun at your shoot! Are you doing an indoor one or outdoor location? I absolutely LOVE Autumn and have toyed with the idea of trying to have a last minute shoot somewhere where the trees are all changing colour but I'm feeling far from photogenic right now!
LP - enjoy it, I hope your colleagues spoil you!!
AFM - my pool arrives today, I'm so excited! It has meant I've been up early as no delivery slot given, so I've missed out on my 7-10am 'decent sleep' (for someone who has always been ok at morning and who needed proper darkness to sleep, I still find it weird that I sleep so badly overnight at the moment then 7am hits and I'm out properly!) but I may go back to bed for a nap later.
I took advantage of being up a bit early to carry on packing the changing bag (incl. a few different sized babygrows and vests for baby, blanket, snowsuit etc), and my bag (helpfully has 2 zip compartments so I've been filling the post-labour side with glam things like maternity pads, disposable pants, ginormous black cotton pants, button down PJs and breast pads). The labour side is still empty as I'm hoping to at least start at home so I'm stockpiling things next to the bed instead (dressing gown, slippers, clary sage etc) and once the pool is set up, a lot of other labour things can be left nearby so it's all in once place.
I've been needing to pee every 2 hours for the last 2 nights, and had a few slight period-type cramps but nothing to get excited about - this baby is definitely not making an appearance for another week, and knowing my luck we'll go way over due date instead!

MrsB, you make sure you lie in till very last second tomorrow before big event :-)
Hi BE, glad all is fine
JT - bump shot sounds good - will you show us the results?
LP - Yaay for last day at work - I bet you sleep all next week away!!
Hi OB :-)
AFM - feeling better today. In much better frame of mind too. Had a good chat with H last night re homebirth - he is keen for me to stick with plan. He also pointed out that I've never been away from our toddler for more than a meal out, so how anxious would I be leaving her to birth in hospital/MLU. He has a very good point. Even a 6hour discharge sounds like an eternally long time when he put it like that.

I was thinking about your hospital transfer as well HF - I am pretty sure you can refuse to go separately, just use the informed consent line and refuse to be separated from your baby. Stick it in writing (birth plan?) if necessary - I have things like that in my 'in case of emergency' section of the birth plan. I am sure you won't need to transfer this time, but it may give you peace of mind to have a 'just in case' plan.
Hope Popcorn is doing ok, and more baby out vibes to Noggin!

I promise I won't! Im hoping to get back to the office for a few hours in the middle of the day so that will be a nice sit down!
BE glad to hear u arw all ok
Jellytot the shoot sounds exciting! Will u give us a little peak?!
LP enjoy your last day!!
Mrs 50s you sound very organised! Where are u going to store the pool? Are u going to have it set up ready?!
HF glad u are feeling better!! U H makes a good point!
04/10/2013 at 09:47
Hi Mrs50s. I'm excited about your pool too. LOL. Which one are you getting? I've messaged local NCT lady this morning, who'd offered to lend me thier pool (birth pool in a box - dunno which size but I'm hoping for bigger one, as I'm 6ft1 !!)
I was actually wondering about refusing transfer by ambulance completely if it is *just* because I need stitches. And going in at my own convenience, with H, baby & toddler - they left me last time sat from 3-9pm refusing to allow me food or drink and then I was so dehydrated (had also thrown up for most of labour) it took then an hour to get needle in me for drip. Another hour for spinal block & stitching and then, of course, because it was 11pm, I had to stay overnight on a ward. Can't see difference, personally between sitting at home with tear and sitting in hospital ! I suspect my midwife will have kittens.....

Mrs50s - re MrsB query about setting up pool. We had ours blown up last time, we did a test run - it takes ages to fill! But as you know, didn't get it filled in time for me to get in it in labour. This time, first twinge and we are filling it!!!
04/10/2013 at 11:45
Late to the party today, will be back later to catch up properly, but Keith Chegwin is in our work today for a tickled pink event, it's bizarre and a bit like watching a car crash!
04/10/2013 at 12:19
You will all be pleased to know that I am sat at my desk and don't need to head back to setting up until 3:30!
going to stuff my face and have plenty of water the next few hours. I was just walking around sticking up signage this morning so not to strenuous, my fingers hurt from all the blue tac softenning though!
just had a call from the midwife as she is off sick again/still (i saw my midfiwfe at my booking in at 8 weeks and every appt since she has been ill so ive seen others!) It was going to be in the middle of my GTT which i though would keep me distracted from the hunger! now I have to go to the surgery wed morning for midwife, thurs morn for GTT & whooping cough vaccination and sat morn for flu vaccination! im going to be part of the furniture!
horse fan- i would fight to beable to stay at home too, sounds like a nightmare at the hospital after having the birth you wanted!
Mrs P- sounds like an interesting day in your office!!! :-)

Mrs Bass, glad you're sat down ;)
Re: the pool, we splashed out (boom boom) on a heated, filtered pool from Barefoot Birthpools. They have a filtration system built in, and a heater on a thermostat so it maintains he correct temperature - no scrabbling to top up with hot / cold water and get the perfect temperature! Our hot water tank is quite small and low pressure so we didn't think it would be easy to quickly fill an inflatable. Also, strange logic though this may be, but I thought if I hired or bought an inflatable pool and then didn't get to use it due to transfer or baby arriving too quickly, I'd feel like it was totally wasted money, whereas the rigid one will be put up tonight and both H and I can use it to relax in as often as we like until babe arrives (and after if we want to, although would of course be changing the water in between ;) )
Technically the new filtration system means the filter just needs to be cleaned each week and the water won't need to be changed even if baby doesn't arrive for 4 weeks - but in reality, we'll keep an eye on it all and may do a water change or two depending on how it is. Barefoot pools are really good with their customer service and we can call at any time for advice on things like that.
HF, my MWs said they'd stitch me at home if I needed it, presumably that does depend on the degree of tearing but they bring local anaesthetic, needles and thread and have already discussed with me where would have a good surface and light to do it if it's needed - perhaps you could find out if this is possible with your MWs? Letting you get dehydrated is awful - you need hydration for healing! I'm glad you're feeling more positive about HB again though, I bet a transfer won't even be necessary this time :)
MrsP - hilarious, what kind of work do you do?!
04/10/2013 at 12:31
Oh, and I'm just starting to think about a labour playlist. I added 'This girls is on fire' without really thinking it through...!
04/10/2013 at 13:34
They will stitch a 2nd degree at home. Last I had a 3c ... Which is internal / external tearing, involving rectal muscles i.e. near as damit, joining the two passages together
I would be ecstatically happy with a 2nd degree tear this time. LOL.
Your pool sounds amazing! I have a suspicion my toddler will be having a swim in mine - she loves baths/swimming etc!
04/10/2013 at 14:52
I want to get a pool at home now, simple because Im getting too big for the bath!
04/10/2013 at 16:06
Haha - I know that feeling; I gave up baths about half way through as our narrow bath wasn't exactly comfy pre-pregnancy... it has taken 2 years, but finally H caved and we bought a new, super-wide bath which he fitted last weekend. Typically I haven't been in it yet and now the pool has arrived!
04/10/2013 at 16:11
MrsBass - You can buy birth pools on eBay ......or just go the whole hog and buy a garden hot tub!!
04/10/2013 at 16:20
A garden hot tub - bliss! That'd give the neighbours something to talk about
