Just wanted to wish a happy Chanukah to everyone!
E is having her first taste of latkes! We hadn't started weaning last year and so far she's enjoying them!

Ah it's so exciting Monnie! I loved E's first Chanukah. Fluffy Fish (Mrs Claus on here) made her a beautiful 'My first Hannukkah' bib, I'd definitely recommend for next year :)

Happy Chanukah Stripey and Monnie. Friday night going to my parents for Chanukah and don't know how I am going to keep my news in.
Also just told H tonight that our kiddies won't have *godparents* which he hadn't realised!

we are going to have a mixed faith blessing ceejay, whereby they have guardians i believe rather than godparents.
i think i 'like' her page, so ill keep an eye out, id love that and my mum would love it aswell !!!

Here's her bib:
We had E blessed at synagogue when she was 3 months. she doesn't have godparents. My H isn't Jewish but is so supportive, he's actually considered converting. I think you could have godparents though, in fact I'm pretty sure I do. Not that they've played a huge role in my life mind!!

I don't know about your special faith days but I hope you enjoy the celebrations.

oh stripey i love love love it, and i must have one !!!!
i need to email the rabbi and just ask some questions, hubby isnt Jewish and isnt particularly religious, but i prayed every day to fall when we were TTC, and i did pray in a church when i was at a friends wedding, so i need to do this haha !

We have had a lovely few nights, E has been transfixed by the candles! Your E looks so cute Stripey! We aren't weaning until next month so am going to have to wait until next year to give him latkas.
Today we are having all E's little friends over for a chunnukah party and then off to shul for a children's service and party there. Sunday we have both sets of parents and siblings over. I have been warmed already by our families how spoilt E is going to be with gifts!
Enjoy the rest of the celebrations

Mazel Tov Cee-Jay, just seen your news

Stripey - your little one and the bib is adorable!! So cute. Didn't realise your H isn't Jewish.
Ferbs - thank you! So excited
Monnie - that sounds lovely
So we had Chanukah at my parents last night and decided I just couldn't keep it in. A fter the candles had been lit I just said "oh by the way, need to tell you that I'm pregnant". Cue stunned silence for about 20 seconds whilst it registered and then lots of crying and happiness. Told them all super early days etc and not to tell a soul but they are all just so happy and excited!

Ah that's fab CeeJay! I bet they were all so thrilled and such a special time to share your news too :) How far along are you?
And thanks, that's one of my favourite pictures of E, can't believe how much she has changed in a year though!
Monnie I prayed every day too. We had two losses before conceiving E and I just felt this need to pray. I did it whilst we were TTC and all through my pregnancy. Her name (Eliana) is Hebrew and quite literally translates as 'God has answered'. As soon as we knew we were having a girl her name couldn't have been anything else :) I find I'm much more involved in the Synagogue since having her too, I want her to grow up knowing her roots.
I found this latke recipe on Pinterest, going to try it over the weekend cookingstoned.tv/.../curry-sweet-potato-latkes-with-maple-greek-yogurt

Hi Stripey You Eliana is gorgeous and what a gorgeous name as well. How old is she?
I'm superearly. Monday is the start of my six week officially, but 4.5/5 weeks since we conceived/I ovulated. Wasn't going to tell them before first scan but just couldn't keep it in.
I;d really like a hebrew name but my H is adamant he wants a name that is a name in English and French.
The Latke recipe looks delicious.

p.s. are you a North London lady Stripey?
30/11/2013 at 18:55
CeeJay I think I've just twigged you're on Hitched? Same avatar, different name?
E is 16 months now! I'd told my family early on in my pregnancy. I figured that I want them to know whatever happened so no point waiting until I'd had a scan. Most of my family are all North London, I grew up in West London, but now in Berkshire on the Surrey/Hants border.
I think you may find it tricky to come up with a name that is Hebrew, French and English! Will you be finding out the gender? Might make it easier!
30/11/2013 at 20:29
That's a perfect and beautiful name stripey!!!
30/11/2013 at 21:30
CeeJay - we couldn't keep the news from our parents also and told both sets the day after I tested. Like you there was a stunned silence then lots of tears and hugs! I found that having that support in the first couple of months when no one else knew was invaluable, particularly when I was feeling so tired and sick all the time!
As for names, we also went for a Hebrew name. We went back and forth and nothing else felt right. Our son is called Eli (pronounced e-ligh, you wouldn't believe how many people get it wrong!) Both families were so touched that we chose something that marked our culture.
Stripey - another south of the river Jew here!
Moonie - Although It's not traditional to have godparents, I don't think that there is anything preventing you from having them. My BIL and SIL had a baby blessing and involved the godparents that they appointed

Ferbs - Eli is a gorgeous name as well, what does it mean? Nice to hear I'm not the only one who told parents early. Feel like we are all sharing this massive secret as well.
I'm a south of the river Jew as well. I was brought up in Surrey, but my mum and her family all Finchley jews and my nana and grandpa moved out to high barnet and now in a lovely residential home in Golders Green.
Stripey - yeah I'm on hitched as ClareHJ but same photo
