I've heard great things about them. My mum sent me a picture of one that she's bought for W for his Christmas...He'll only be 18 months old, so i think a bit too wee for it yet, but i'm sure he'll get plenty of use out of it as he get's bigger.

Thanks both, RKB its good to know others are thinking along the same lines. Do you know which one your mum has bought? (Don't worry if you don't!) Thanks Mrs B, L will be similar in that he probably wont actually be using it until next spring, so its useful to know that Isla was using hers at a similar age to what he will be. I'm not bothered if it.takes him a while to work it out, I just don't want to get him something that he wont be able to use for ages. All the reviews I've found online seem to say from about twoish so I'm sure he'll be okay, I suppose there's a lot that he can do now that seemed impossible six months ago, they change so fast! I think we will probably go for it, thanks for the help

I don't know who makes it or anything, but this is the picture my mum sent me. It looks huge to me, but i'm sure it won't be that bad. I think she picked it up at a car boot sale or something.

My 3 year old has a Isla balance bike, he has been using since he was about 2. He is great on it, confident and goes quite fast. I'd highly recommend them especially the Isla bikes

Thanks RKB, that looks lovely, I bet W will love it! Thanks for the rec yoyo, I haven't heard of Isla bikes so will get googling!

Just found the name of the bike, it's a Plum Wooden Balance Bike. They're for children aged 3-4, so I really don't know how my mum thinks W will be able to use it any time soon...

Lol, oops! Never mind, hopefully W will grow into it quickly! Having said that, most of the ones I've looked at online say from age 3 but then the reviews are all from parents of 18 month - 2 year olds, so maybe they just label it that way as a precaution? Thanks for finding out the name for me, I will have a look.

My son has one but isn't interested in it. I was going to get one for my daughter but when she spied the bikes with dolly carriers and streamers in the shop there was no way she was going to be happy with a balance bike lol. I know some friends who had them and their boys were a whizz on them, could go really fast. I think of all A's friends the 2 that had balance bikes were riding proper bikes without stabilisers 1st but A was only a few months behind so I don't think it makes a massive difference to learning to ride. It took us 15 minutes to teach A!
