Has anyone else had heart palpitations in pregnancy?
For the last 20 minutes my heart has been beating way too fast. It started as a few palpitations and then got faster and faster and then I had to sit on the floor because I thought I was going to faint. Then I felt like I was going to throw up, I saw stars in front of my eyes, my skin went all clammy - and then suddenly, I was fine. It was pretty scary for a while there though. Has anyone else experienced anything like this - is it normal or do I need to call my midwife?
I have had problems with palpitations, on and off, pre-pregnancy, but all of the tests I have had have come back 'inconclusive' so I don't know what was causing those ones. And they never made me feel faint, or scared me quite as much

Ok I might do that then. I did tell the mw that I had anaemia when I was younger and about the ECG's and palpitations and she said to keep my iron levels up. Did your ECG show anything or did it just turn out to be your iron levels?

Yep, I've been having them since around 17 weeks. Have been admitted to hospital a few times, had a couple of ECGs and this morning been for a scan on my heart but showing nothing. The first thing they suspected was low iron but whilst mine is low it isn't so low that it should be causing such a high level of symptoms. However I'm now 35 weeks and they haven't found anything actually wrong.
I would mention it to your midwife. Do you have an appt soon ?

Yes but not as bad as you have. Certain positions shuch as half sat, half lay on sofa start them. Nothing as bad as you though. Sounds well scary! Hope you are ok xxx

Yes, I've been getting them for the last 4/5 weeks (am 33 weeks), horrible isn't it? although doesn't sound like mine are too bad in comparison!!
Are you getting Braxton Hicks? I have noticed that my palpitations are almost always combined with the BH's, and I seem to be getting a lot of them! :/
I spoke to my MW about it and she said it's pretty common as the body is under so much strain in pregnancy so not to worry, she did say though she would send me for a scan on the heart if they get worse or I am concerned.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
JB I'm not due to see the MW for another 4 weeks but if this happens again I might call and try to speak to her, just in case. Hopefully it was a one-off - I've been rushing around the last few days so maybe I just over-did it.
I'm ok LP, I was just a bit freaked out this morning cos if I had been out in the car, or looking after my baby neices, or anything else really important, and I actually had blacked out or something, it could have been a lot worse. Luckily I was at home with my H but I'm hoping it doesn't happen again, when I'm not.
MM I know what you mean about not wanting to leave the house! How strange that your iron levels are really high now. Our bodies are amazing really.
Mum2be, I think i'm way too early for BH but I hope that I don't get these palpitations later :-(. I suspect that my MW would say the same as yours so I won't bother her unless it happens again.
Fingers crossed that it won't happen quite so dramtically again, and it's nice to know that I'm not the only one to experience this. Thanks ladies :-)
