I have my not so little fella sleeping soundly in his cot beside me so thought I'd take five minutes to catch up and say a big thank you for our lovely BA messages. Thanks to Smarties too for being a fab PP!
Everything now seems to be well with Sam, but we had a really scary time with him the day after he arrived and he spent some time in high dependency neo-natal. It was just awful, but we are so very grateful to the wonderful hospital team who took such swift action and good care of him. I will hopefully do a proper BS at some point, but in brief he had an infection, that at first indicated a twisted intestine or bowel issue. He had lots of horrible tests, and had to be taken to Leicester hospital, from Nottingham at 40 hours old, but fortunately they were able to rule both things out and he got better and better every day and we were discharged yesterday afternoon
It all happened extremely quickly and we thought the worst for a little while, I can't even begin to explain how horrendous it was, and how brave and helpless he seemed. Sadly I know this is something experienced by too many MDers, and that not everyone has a happy ending. We feel very grateful that the worst of it was over after two days. I still feel a bit panicky, and H and I have no doubt lost some innocence and gained some paranoia, but we saw some very poorly babies during our stay and know that we are very, very lucky to have him home with us, wire and tube free, and able to start life properly as a family, putting the rest behind us
I've been quite down (man, those hormones are tough!) but H, the midwives, Sam's nurses and some amazing friends - including Smarties and Mrs Bubble have helped so much, and I already feel 100 times better than I did two days ago, it's been quite the rollercoaster!
I look forward to catching up with some BAs hopefully and other good news - will sort some photos too when I get chance - he's quite the cutie! x
