Not able to get on MD very well on my phone, but finally made it onto the laptop to say hello!!
Thank you hugely to GButterfly for the BA and doing such a fab PP job! I loved reading my BA thread in hospital, thank you everyone for your congratulations!
I'd love to do a proper birth story, but not sure when I'm going to find the time at the moment. So in short... after posting last week about things not moving along and expecting to have to need inducing, it all kicked off Weds night with my waters breaking (sweep, sex, walk, bouncing seemed to do the trick). I was so happy!! Thurs I contracted all day with my TENS on and made it to hospital about 3:30pm when I was 6cm. Laboured in the pool on gas & air until 10cm and was ready to push about 8pm. Unfortunately at this point my contractions died off so I was struggling to know when to push. After an hour, Seb's heartbeat was rising and it was nearly 24 hours since waters had gone, so reluctantly I was transferred to the consultant led delivery suite. There was a short discussion about next steps (forceps decided), and pain relief. It was decided an epidural was the way to go unless I had a high pain threshold (way to scare a girl!)... but then the consultant came back and said the baby was low enough down that we should give it a go without the epidural first (!!!). So Seb was born at 10:13pm by forceps, with gas & air and a local anaesthetic. I feel really proud of myself for getting through it and am just pleased such a cute baby came at the end! We were all shocked that he was 9lb 1oz and 60cm!
After some initial BF difficulties we're at home now and getting into the swing of it all! BF is going pretty well now and Seb's 5-day check was good news.
So, this is baby Sebastian Erik (Seb):
