Sometimes when A is trying to latch on she thrashes her head from side to side very quickly and seemingly uncontrollably. She goes very rigid so i can't just shove her on, and she works herself up into such a state. It freaks me out a bit because its so frantic and she seems as distressed about it as me.
Any ideas why this might be? She had a tongue-tie snipped yesterday so thought it might be because she's a bit confused with her new tongue, but she was doing it before it was fixed. Its not every feed, but frequent enough that i want to try and stop it before it gets worse

I believe the head butting is normal as she's stimulating the milk to come down, iyswim.

WDumbleSpudS, it's her way of trying to stimulate the milk flow - and whilst it's frustrating, it's normal.

Its not when she's actually on though, she thrashes around and inch or so away from the nipple and doesn't touch the boob at all...

A does this when she's really hungry. Once she's on she's fine. Is she latching ok at other times? We had this after the TT snip while she was learning to latch but our problem was that she couldn't stay on so possibly different to yours x

That sounds just like us - TT was snipped on Thursday and its been worse since then, and her main issue was a small gape and not staying latched on properly.
Did it get better?

Sometimes d thrashes like a dog with a toy but she's on. It's normally because she has wind or is falling asleep at end of feed. She is latched at time, but could still be wind too?

M used to do this, it was like he was trying to find the nipple himself, I think it's quite normal, once he was on he was fine.
