So, baby A HAS taken a bottle previously but a few weeks ago just started refusing it point-blank. I thought it was the Milton smell/taste so I've tried to get rid of that by soaking in boiling water etc and I can't smell it anymore, but he still won't take a bottle of my EBM. I've tried it cool, warm, tried putting some breastmilk on the teat...
I'm not sure what to do now. He is 3 months old, could I try introducing a 'sippy cup'-type thing? If so, which one is best for a baby?
I suppose it's not TOO important at the moment, but I might want to return to work in 3-6 months time and I was really hoping I could feed him breastmilk until he's a year old so want to get him used to taking it from somewhere that isn't my nipple.

Have u tried different teats? B will only feed from really soft teats

I've been using the Medela calma as I didn't want him to start preferring bottle, but as it is he will only take breast! I might have to try with some different teats, although I liked the ability to pump directly into the bottle and screw the teat on. Do you know if different teats would fit the Medela bottle?

Is it the standard neck medela bottles that fit the medela swing pump? If so then medela do a variety of normal teats, and lots of the other brands do teats for standard neck bottles, I've had to get a load of different ones as B was very picky with the teats

Has h tried to feed him with you out of sight?
Isaac took a bottle then refused. We kept persevering, always h giving it, ended taking it but he had to be sat bolt upright, roasting hot milk and from a breast flow bottle. That lasted a few weeks then he didn't care where it came from.
Have u tried a bigger teat?

Thanks ladies. I'll try and look for some different teats, it's the medela bottle which fits the medela pump and the pump also fits the hospital bottles so must be 'universal'. I'll also try with H giving him a feed and see how that goes. It's good to know others have persevered and succeeded.

Everyone has given you good options to persevere but just to say that neither of mine really ever took a bottle and were each BF over a year. When I went back to work at 9 months I expressed and they took small amounts from sippy cups during the day but generally just waited until I got home. So, if the bottle doesn't work out don't worry.
I have nuk teats from the hospital, the individually sealed/sterile ones. Don't know if standard nuk teats from the shop fit too? I have some still in the sterile wrapping if you want me to send one to try?

Mine took a bottle until he was about 3.5 months, at which point he started to refuse. We tried a Tommee Tippee cup instead and he took it straight away- I'm not sure but I think it's because he can face outwards and nosy around while he drinks, and he kind of controls the flow? Don't know but it worked! Might be worth a try if the others' suggestions don't work?

A fed from the bottle without any issues until a brief spell of refusing it at 7 months, but I could never get him to use the calma teats, so I'd def try the other, normal, Medela teats as you have those bottles anyway.
Also I second the suggestion of H trying when you are nowhere near.
Try not to get stressed when you're trying, they really pick up on it.
