I am wondering if anyone has had this problem and everything turn out ok? I went for a scan today and they found the gap at the back of the babies neck is 6mm. It is normal to have it at about 1-2mm and the 6mm means there is a good chance there is a problem with my baby . I have to go for a genetic test tomorrow and I am very worried. On the scan the baby was moving about and practically doing the YMCA dance so it is so hard for me to fathem that there is a genetic problem with my baby. I had to have this test with my son but his gap was only a little bit too big this is ginormous I mean on the scan it did make the babies head look a funny shape but then I am only 11 weeks so it could just be that making the baby's head a funny shape too. I am just so scared and sad that I might have to terminate my pregnancy when I have had heaps of bleeding and that and this baby has held on. Obviously the little tike is fighting to live and I might have to be the one to stop that its so sad.

Sorry you've had this result hon. Don't want to give you false hope but I have seen some posts on here where ladies have had a high reault and then gone onto have a clear test. At least they are keeping an eye on you.
It is every parents nightmare to hear that something may be wrong but sending you lots of PMA that everything is ok....

Let us know how you get on and we're always here to talk if you need us

Its just so hard when this little one is fighting so hard to survive and I might have to effectively kill my baby. I feel terrible as by the time the test comes back I will be past 12 weeks and I believe any pregnancy termination after 12 weeks is murder plain and simple. In dreamland I would be able to ignore this and just let my pregnancy go on but in reality I already have 2 kids that need me and my partner is no ok with bringing up a disabled child plus there could be something wrong that means the baby will die before birth anyway. I am just so miserable about it, seeing the baby moving about just made him or her so real to me and it also made the baby look so fine. I am trying to get my head around how on Earth something could be wrong when the baby seemed so fine. I just couldn't be sadder right now but I will let everyone know the result as soon as I get it believe me.

On the upside if everything is fine I also get to know the babies sex 100% for certain how cool is that! Even if we have to terminate I want to know the sex of the child so we can give it a name that suits its sex and I know its wierd but knowing would help me with the grief.

What a difficult position to be in. I agree it must be terribly hard to comprehend a problem when on the screen is bubba playing away. I think dont panic just yet. Until you have all the facts you cant make a decision so there is no point in agonising or what ifs. It will drive you insane. I know its difficult.
There is still a chance everything is fine. Good luck for your next test and i really hope this turns out to be a false alram for you. Stay strong and positive if you can xx

I did have one positive as I left the obgyn's office I was praying that everything would be fine. Anyway later when I was having lunch one of those usually annoying born again christians came up to me with a flier. The thing that got me was the title was miracles still happen am now wonder if its a sign.

Have looked and looked but I just can't find much at all to indicate there is much hope of things turning out ot be ok. Now wonder the doctor was so sure that with a 6mm gap there is a problem

Oh hon, I really don't know what to say. What an awful predicament for you and your DH to be in. I really hope bubba proves everybody wrong and goes on to live a healthy life. My thoughts are with you and your family.
