Hi Amy welcome to the site. Generally it will all come down to where you live as areas can tend to work slightly differently (some areas the MW phones you to arrange the appt whilst others you have to phone her) but you should have your 'booking in' appt within 6-10wks into your pregnancy at which they should discuss your medical history & arrange a bloodtest to determine your bloodgroup & certain immunities.
Morning sickness generally you find what works for you but many women will find relief from one of - travel sickness bands, ginger bread/biscuits, ice cubes/lollies, herbal teas. For tender boobs, odd though it sounds, raw cabbage leaves placed inside your bra will help. Backache will largely come down to incorrect posture as your centre of gravity shifts to accommodate your bump so trying to sit as upright/straight as possible or with supporting cushions in your lower back/lumber region should help ease this.

All my mw phone calls come up as witheld. But she does usually leave a message. You could always try ringing just to see, at least you won't be worrying about missing her phonecall.
My sickness was eased by eating little bits throughout. But with my first I got carried away, healthy snacks are best. xx
