Hi, I'm 14 weeks pregnant and just found out my screening results from my dating scan. I have been told I have high blood pressure and I'm very high risk of developing pre eclampsia. Did anyone else get a scare like this and not get it? I don't understand what this means or if I will now have a normal birth (I was hoping for a water birth. any advice would be appreciated!

I had it with my first baby, didn't develop it till 39 weeks and my bp was normal till then. I'm guessing your on blood pressure meds? What was your last bp reading? You will be monitored closely but they won't diagnose PE till you have protine in your urine as well as high bp x

Thanks for the reply. They only called me today and asked me to come in Tuesday to discuss my results. They haven't really told me much, I guess that's why I'm worrying. I also made the mistake of having a look on Google too. Did you have to have a c section?

No I was induced, they only do a c section in a emergency situation.(E.G get baby out now senario) or if you plan and book one. But pre eclampsia didn't mean you can't have a normal delivery, josh was induced which took roughly 2 days.
im monitoring my own bp and urine at home as waiting to see the midwife makes me anxious, it can be very dangerous if it isn't spotted. Do you have a high bmi or history or hypertension before pregnancy?
I think the midwife saying your high risk for PE is unfair on you, the stress of worrying will but your bp up and you may not develop it at all, but at least she has made you aware of the signs and symptoms!
try not to worry, you have a long way to go and you won't enjoy if your constantly worrying about it :)

Hiya with my last pregnancy I developed high bp and was also told I was high risk to develop pre e.
I was admitted into hospital overnight when I was around 33 weeks so they could get my bp down after they monitored me for a few hours and bp reached 176/111 and wasnt showing signs of slowing down.. after that I was on meds til he was born. i did keep getting traces of protein in my urine but never consistently or enough for them to diagnose pre e.
as a result of the high bp I was induced 40+2 as consultant and I agreed it wouldn't be good to wait any longer. my waters were broken at 16:30 and he was born at 19:23. They will watch your bp closely during labour (mine went crazy high so had to take more meds then it went really low so nearly passed out lol) they'll only c section if it's absolutely necessary.
try not to worry, you will be monitored closely (I had to spend hours in day assessment listening to baby's heart beating lol which I enjoyed) just try and relax as much as possible xx

As an extra, talk to your midwife or consultant about the water birth. As I was high risk they wouldn't allow me a water birth but hopefully they might let you x

I've been given a daily dose of 75mg aspirin as my bmi is high and its my first pregnancy.
Try not too worry, the main thing is catching it. The calmer you are the better for your bp
