I thought dying hair in pregnancy was fine. I didn't stop

I didn't stop, Ive had my roots done twice. I think highlights are fine but I think your supposed to avoid bleach.
My hair dresser said there was no risk but your skin might be a bit more sensitive.

It's fine, the only issue you might have that as your hair can change in pregnancy then it can take to the dye differently to how it usually does but I would that's more in later pregnancy.

I've had it done several times. There is no problem with hair dye affecting the baby, the issue can be that your hair reacts differently to the chemicals but mine hasn't at all.

Personally I probably wouldn’t have the dye/bleach directly on my scalp, but I would have foils, as it’s not actually touching your skin. If it’s bleach just make sure you’re in a ventilated room as the smell might make you feel a bit sick too!

Thanks everyone. Did you have it done in early pregnancy ie before 12 weeks?

I work at a hairdressers and get my highlights regularly. Some hairdressers are just over cautious. Its fine.

I waited until after 12 weeks as the nurse at the fertility clinic told me that was the advice they were told to pass on to patients. Looks like I'm in the minority but just thought I'd
Let you know what I was told.

I work in a hairdressers. There's no conclusive proof that hair dye affects the baby. If you're having foils you should be fine. It's entirely up to the individual though. In my first pregnancy, I did a patch test, but last week I had my roots done with no patch test and I was less than 5 weeks at that point.

I had a huge overhaul of colour at about 8 weeks. a tint, then dye then highlights. I was just warned I might be more sensitive, I wasn't though

I waited to have my roots done until I was 12 weeks, I spoke to the senior colourist at Toni & Guy, they said highlights with foils don't touch the scalp so it would be fine and said there was no evidence it harms the baby either. She also said they've done several pregnant ladies highlights with no problems. Once I had them done at 12 weeks I went back to have them redone every 6 weeks all the way through my pregnancy with no problems. I would do it, but make sure its a pro who does it!

I had full colour on my hair when I was pregnant, including in the 1st tri - I did speak to my hairdressers about it and she was happy to do it. I think the more modern dyes aren't such a problem, and with you having highlights it's not likely to get on your scalp so much anyway. The only problem I found was that my scalp was more sensitive to the dye, and the colour might not take as you'd normally expect it to.

dyed my hair throughout at home...colour took as normal...I just made sure the bathroom windows were wide open as my nose was extra sensitive to the fumes!

i had mine bleached at 10 weeks and it was fine. the hairdresser says the only issue is that it might not take as well but it took fine
