M (3) starts ballet lessons today and needs her hair in a bun. I've put it in a ponytail and wrapped the hair round it and secured with another bauble but it looks daft because her hair is not that thick, and it's already fallen out once. Is it just a case of putting loads of kirby grips in it??
I'm so not a girlie girl and never do that kind of thing with my own hair!

Can you use a donut? If you don't have one you can make one with an old pair of tights (nude for blonde hair, black for dark hair), just cut a leg off , cut the toes off then roll it up. Tie her hair in a pony tail then put the donut over the hair band and wrap her hair round it and secure with grips.
I don't know how long her hair is. Otherwise do what you've done and ask the other parents and teacher when you get there.
Boys seem so easy compared to girls when I think of things like this

We use a donut, you can get them from Boots. If you use enough grips it should stay in fine but she will need enough hair to cover the donut iyswim. Both my girls do ballet and whilst technically they are supposed to wear it in a bun they usually just have it in a ponytail or some plaits and most of the other girls are the same.

Another recommendation for the mini donuts that you can get. They are so so easy.
For her lesson though just put it in a pony tail and then for the last twist of the bobble don't pull it all the way through.

Sock bun. I cut the toes off a pop sock and rolled it.
