I am just 9 weeks and 5 days. when is it too early to pick up a bargain?
There are a few bargains out there that are like 50% off and want to know if I sound like some kind of psycho if I picked up a couple?
I feel like I might jinx things if I do but I am on a budget and am already stressing about money...
what did you guys do or what do you think?
Thank you
if you feel fine about it. go for it. x
I am not personally buying anything until after my twenty week scan. I don't believe in jinxing anything at all, what will be will be but I know I would find having baby items in the house very hard if anything (heaven forbid) did happen.
I know what you mean about the bargains though - if the buggy system we want was available on offer in the colour we wanted I may have caved because the saving was over ??140 on the colours that were in the sale! Clothes I am not so bothered about because we are having a summer baby and most of the sale clothes are winter items.
If you are on a budget I would go ahead and get some bits - you'll be very glad of the saving xx
it was actually the tomme tippee steriliser starter kit that was ??60 down from ??110 and ??100 in other places.
I was compiling a list and was getting very worried about affording everything so even had to stop doing the list so I didn't get too stressed.
do these things go on seasonal sales such as spring etc. or is it just a post christmas thing?
I don't really want to buy anything now but will feel peeved buying the same thing in 3 months for ??50 more although just feel silly buying stuff now
why not, I don't believe in all this superstitious nonsense, but it depends on how you feel.
Given what life can throw at you it seems to me to be rather strange to think buying things can influence the outcome of your pregnancy.
But clearly its down to how you feel. Grab the bargain I say
the tommee tippee stuff is on offer regularly at places like tesco. It's up to you how you feel, we didn't buy anything new until after 12 week scan as we had a previous mc but I had bought some bits and pieces before BFP. Think about how you would feel, if anything was to happen, I know if I'd bought anything specific I would have to get rid of it, sorry that sounds really negative and I've sure you will have a healthy pregnancy, things are in teh slaes regularly though I find so its completely up to you - that said we ordered our buggy the week after out scan! xx
i bought a steriliser at 6 weeks but some stuff goes on sale regularly ie the tommee tippee microwave steriliser, breast pump etc either in the twice yearly asda baby event or in tescos. If you're on a budget, look at ebay too.
Hey the cost of having a bambino certainly adds up so I'd say save the pennies where you can. By coincidence, I think I bought my steriliser when I was about 9 or 10 weeks because it was half price in Boots.

I'm 7+6 and I've been buying the odd bits of maternity clothes. This is mainly as I'm getting married in April and if I start to show around that time the last thing I want to be doing is running around finding clothes that fit me and bump to wear and to take on the honeymoon.
I do feel a bit bad doing this as I'm not very far along, but if the bean doesn't stick then I'll hope that I can wear it another time.
I'm very tempted as the pram I like is nearly half-price in one shop (usually between ??264 & ??300 but on sale for ??189), but I'm going to sell my wedding dress and stuff to buy that so will hopefully be in the summer sales too.
If you're on a budget (and who isn't!) then go for it.

I think it's a good idea to try to space out the expenses. We have a spreadsheet list of everything that we've needed to buy for the babies and next to each item we've written when we expect to buy it. Now that we're in the home stretch, there is very little left to buy. We've also tried to get things when we've seen them on offer or when we have vouchers to put towards them. Sign up for as many baby clubs as you can because you will get a lot of money off vouchers. I have a list of all of the baby clubs/free offers I found over the course of my two pregnancies. I can repost it if you're interested. Let me know...
G/C from baby but just wanted to reassure you that a lot of the baby stuff goes on offer at least twice a year. I have rarely bought anything at full price (apart from my pushchair because they never discount it!)
Places like mothercare and mamas and papas are forever having 50% off or send you vouchers in the post.
On another note if you are on a budget (we were) I have an Ikea white cotbed which is fab I think in total it cost us about ??90 including the best mattress and lo is now 6 months and has been in it since 4 weeks old. Would definitely recommend it.
Dont want to put a downer on it but i had a mmc (found out at first scan at 11 weeks) and i had bought a few things and it just made it that little bit harder to pack all the things away and put them in the roof. I didn't end up using the things i bought anyway because it made me think of sad times when i saw them so bought new for my lo. I'm sure all will be fine but just wanted to share my experience x
i bought my pram at 11 weeks becuase the VAT would incrrease it by a bit!! got the icandy peach so as itsx quite expensive, the VAT rise would have made quite a difference.
13+4 xx
Thanks for your advice. I am so nervous about my scan. Evry night I go to bed feeling like the day passing with no ill event is a triumph.
I think I will leave it for now and keep and eye out over the next few months x
I would love to not be superstitious but I am one of those stupid people that wouldn't wear an outfit to a job interview if I had previously worn it to an interview I failed.....I literally make total crap up to be worried about.....I guess it;s not so bad if you are aware that you;re crazy right!?
I've not bought anything yet, am waiting till after my 20wk scan next week. I'd say go for it if you feel you want to buy now, although better bargains might come along later and with more info you might decide you want different things.
As an example I'm not going to buy an electric steriliser now - it's a waste of money in my mind lol - am going to buy either a cold water one or a combi cold water/microwave one - and this is only by looking round and talking to mums. Also not going to get an electric breast pump - most mums I've spoken to prefer manual - and this all saves a fortune!!

Hi
My auntie bought hundreds of things before she even got her BFP, she didn't know what she would have so she bought boys and girls stuff (she is mad lol) and in the end she had twins, a boy and a girl so it all worked out perfectly for her. My best friend on the other hand is now 35 weeks and although she has just bought her pram and moses basket, car seat etc, she is completely chilled and has nothing else yet. So I think it is completely up to you hun. I am 12 weeks now, and I have seen all the bargains in the shops, I have been told that there is normally a sale half way through the year too, and shops like Tesco, Asda etc have baby events every few months, so I will look out for those I think. You will always be able to pick up bargains if you keep an eye out for them,
I am nervous about my scan too, I have another 2 weeks to wait, so I will be just under 14 weeks, eeeek!
Take care x
Nothing to do with superstition but I would be wary buying anything until you have had at least your 12 week scan. I don't want to be negative but if god forbid something was wrong imagine how heartbreaking it would be to come home to find baby stuff.
I bought a babygrow at 12 weeks to satisfy my cravings to buy stuff and then waited until around 20 weeks to buy anything else, more for financial reasons than anything else. Because of the current financial climate there will be sales periodically throughout the year to stimulate spending, especially in the summer, so you don't have to worry about missing out on bargains. Also check out TKMaxx before you buy anything like sterilsers, they do some real bargains!!
I also waited until after my 20wk scan but I was lucky as this was just after christmas. My Mum is of the belief that you should not buy ANYTHING until after that baby is born. I had to tell her that this is completely unrealistic as you obviously need the basics like cat seat, buggy and crib/moses basket. Have to hide my stuff away when she comes to visit...but she lives 200 miles away so thats not too often.
Look out for ex-shop displays nearer the time you are due, you can pick up some real bargains that have never been used but just been demonstrated a lot. Hope it all works out for you*
we bought the odd thing before our scan and then went craxy once we had the 12 weeks scan. we arent superstitious, its just i am a mega worrier and had an early bleed so every twinge convinced me there was an issue.
i say go for it and save money while you can!!! x

Places like Asda have baby events at least every 2-3 months so you will be able to pick up anything you need later on if you decide to wait a while. You wont miss out on a bargain. I'm not sure what you're plans are re feeding but if you breast feed you wont need the sterilising stuff straight away anyway, I didn't use any bottles etc..til Jack was 6-7 weeks old!!
