Hi all. We got our BFP today, FX it's a sticky bean. I have irregular cycles, my last AF started 24th Sept. I know from temping that I ovulated on Sat 26th Oct. Am I right in thinking I add two weeks extra onto that and then count my pregnancy from there? Making me four weeks tomorrow? I want to book an early scan and want to time it correctly (it says you can have it from 7 weeks). Thanks.

You count from the first day of your last period, but as you have irregular cycles, you may get sent for an early scan by your mw if you go and see them x

Oh really. I'd of thought people who know when they ovulate or those who have irregular cycles would be done slightly different. I don't want to book a 7 week scan for next week (if I count it from last AF I'm 6+3!) as I know I'm only actually about 4 weeks so there might not be anything to see yet?

If you think you know your dates then book it for when you think your be 7 weeks. The nhs might offer you an early scan because of your long cycles.

What Imp said.

Thanks all. I'm giving H a poor headache trying to explain it to him!

Agree with imp too. Defo go by how far along you think you are by ov. I have long cycles and ended up lying about the date of my last period as the GP seemed not to care that it didn't correlate with ovulation and therefore put me further along than the reality. I was spot on my own calculations at the dating scan!

Yep, days post ov +2 weeks. My midwife was happy to go with my dates with J, as I didn't ov until cd30 and I knew that, I think with your history of long cycles they should do similar. Congratulations again!

No help I'm afraid, but congratulations on your BFP! x

Congratulations!! If you've been temping and are sure of your dates, then the midwife should take that into account. Show them your charts, and they may still suggest an early dating scan just to be sure, as they won't want to miss the window for the nuchal scan by being off on dates.
So happy for you, pepperoni!

I've gone from OV +2 weeks. I ov'd really early the month we caught. I got my BFP on CD18, which would have put me at less than three weeks doing it the traditional way of going from CD1.

Thanks all. Will go with ovulation + 2 weeks making me 4 weeks today :-D I had CD21 test done this cycle (On 6dpo, still waiting on the results! Got my BFP before those, how bad is that!). So that should mean I shouldn't have much of an argument with the GP over my ovulation dates and how certain I am that they were when I said they were!

Thank you Leelee!
CO - Thank you. I know, it feels too good to be true. Trying (note trying!) to not get too carried away until we have had a scan - I think everyone is like that though right?

Deff It's so hard not to get carried away! I
09/11/2013 at 10:14
It is. One breath H said lets not get carried away, next he was plotting when we could tell everyone - I was like hey! I thought we weren't getting carried away! Hard to balance it right, plus you have to be positive about it, not negative!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! I have odd cycles too, I just added two weeks to my dates and when i spoke with midwife she said "anyone whose TTC knows when they ovulated, but just to be sure, I'll send you for a scan". I came out pretty much spot on. They moved me by 5 days but I'm sticking with my dates.... Plus its nice to have an added scan to make sure everythings all good. SO excited for you!!!!! We said we wouldnt tell anyone, and then we told parents and siblings, we took the rule "if something horrible happened, who would we lean on for support". Within less than 24 hours I told a colleague because i couldn't hold it in haha
